"Oh, it's... a sort of handheld device medical personnel use to deliver medicine into the bloodstream. It works using a system of compressed air instead of a needle, and it's pretty much painless." He paused. "Actually, I'm a little surprised they didn't use one in the first place; they're also less likely to cause accidental infection."

He nodded, disappearing into the crowd and returning in a moment with a glass of water. "So, do they feed you down here?"
