Lirath - Ground Battle

After dropping off some of the crew at Balisair, it was time for the crew to set course for Lirath. The situation greeting them wasn't the most promising.

The cracked surface of the moon called Lirath was one of its most unmistakeable features. One of the three moons of the planet Kehoe, it had been terraformed and served as a settlement for a hundreds of different species, some humanoid, some not. Despite occasional class struggles, environmental issues, and speciesism blocking their way, the darker parts of Lirath's past were largely left behind, and an era of peace and tolerance had reigned for quite some time. The only problems they'd had recently were with a terrorist group whose cause for their actions had been a mystery, but they weren't tied to any particular species or social group and had been likened to a cult and had largely gone quiet in recent years.

Now the peace on the moon of Lirath had been shattered by the invasion of the Ohm.

The capital city had been destroyed. Now, all that was left of the peoples of Lirath was evacuating from one of its smaller cities, one known as Smyteval. A desert city, existing in a valley in between a rocky range of canyons and mountains, even though it was in the low ground, the natural channels of rock served as bottlenecks for any Ohm attacking from the ground.

GIA squadrons patrolled in space, locked in explosive warfare, protecting the Bleed-gate that had been activated to see the evacuated ships to the refugee world, and a shield created by massively-powerful shield generators extended around the city and up into the atmosphere, creating a shielded tunnel so ships could escape.

Word had come that there was a vital weapon to be deployed on Lirath, one that needed to be destroyed, hence why the Transmigration 9 had been called in. Given the diverse crew, and the ships that were in its hangar, there was at least someone or something on board that could blow the weapon up if it did show.

There was no sign of it yet. Right now, there was just chaos, streams of evacuees boarding ships, armies of Ohm engaged with GIA soldiers outside the shields, and forcefields that everyone hoped would hold out just a little bit longer.

The crew would be following Leon's orders but finding themselves fighting side-by-side with GIA platoons, full of various species that were currently all getting their asses kicked severely.

"AQUA-NEESAN!" Sasami cried out again, watching her sister fall for the second time. It was heart-wrenching to watch one of her sisters get hurt like that. As the wounded Tank finally fell to Negi and Will's assault, the other two attempted to finish the job on Aqua, only to have Ryo-Ohki come down and intercept them, using her massive size to protect her "owner" and her friends.

At the same time, Sasami herself ran to Aqua's side, hoping to help her once more.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Negi nodded, moving back. "Focus on the tanks you two!" he called out. "What'd you need me to do?" he asked quickly.

[identity profile] rainfell-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Aqua nodded at Sasami to let her know she was all right before turning back to Negi.

"I need to form a D-Link with you. It'll let me use your powers and vice-versa, the same way Sasami's doing. Right now, I've almost exhausted my powers, and I need time to regain my strength."

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Negi nodded quickly. "Do what you need to do. I'd offer to form a pact with you, but we've got no time for that right now."

He held out his hand for her to do whatever she needed to do.
morganknight: (a little somber)

Errrgh, it burned at this point, he was pushing the limits of what he could easily do. He relaxed just enough to let himself slide out of perfect synch with the cosmos at large, shedding the time dilation spell; that helped. "Lie still," he said, roughly. "Please. Just a moment more."

He lifted his hands off their chest and stomach, respectively, letting his fingers play slowly across the needles still in them. One last effort to revitalize and restore them, though it was far from a complete process. The wounds on their bodies were sealed with clots, not skin; they still needed proper stitching. He couldn't help that with his magic, not quickly enough, not now.

It wasn't exhaustion that gripped him, nor weakness; it was the sheer adrenaline punch, mixed with the deep-seated terror of failing them that he hadn't dared let himself feel. Emotional shock, if anything.

"We need to seal those wounds properly," he told them, voice rough but as calm as he could manage as he began gently withdrawing the needles from their skin. He touched each one before he did, making just enough of an adjustment to bring vitality and strength in small doses, rather than pain from the withdrawal. "I'll get you both onto beds... soon as I get these taken care of. You too," he added, looking at Sayaka with a weak smile. "I wouldn't recommend more fighting for any of you, but you should pull through just fine."

Will just moved to start blasting another of the tanks with her lightning, while the Mech ran out of bullets and started trying to bash one of them over the head with it like a club.

[identity profile] saint-sami.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Annoyed, the Tanks started to thrash, knocking away Ryo-Ohki and attempting to swipe the mech away. With both Negi and Aqua out at the moment, it felt almost hopeless.

Or at least it would be if Sasami didn't act. One of the Tanks came to a halt as it caught the massive energy "blade" she had formed once more.

"I won't let you hurt my family! You hear me?! Not again!" Sasami shouted, giving every last ounce of strength to fight the best and make it not race forward.

[identity profile] rainfell-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Aqua formed the D-Link quickly and began to activate it when she heard Sasami engaging the Tank.

"Sasami!" she cried, racing over.

In a flash, her Keyblade changed form (http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b100/Akino_Annwyn/Britt.jpg) to a white-and-blue blade, forged from her bond with Sasami. She held out Lighthawk and formed a barrier around Sasami so the Tank wouldn't harm her.

Devlin's crystal arm was shaped like a blade as he slashed at the cultist--then ducked out of the way of Vivio's far more powerful attacks.

"What are these guys made of?" he asked. "They just don't quit!"

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Negi stepped to the side, forming a lightning blade, hurling it at the Tank that was attacking Sasami, his blade crackling as it was thrust at the tanks head.

[identity profile] kandrakar-heart.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Will kept throwing lightning blast after lightning blast at the attacking Ohm, while the Mech was knocked over for the moment, it's large gun, and the arm it was attached to, going flying and thankfully landing far away from the group.

The mech rose back to it's feet, before charging at the tank again, thrusting it's one remaining limb back and then forward into a punch at the tanks head.

[identity profile] saint-sami.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Sasami looked back as she heard Aqua call her name. If she was surprised by anything, it was the design of the Keyblade in her hands. The hilt resembling that of Tenchiken, the Master Key and the sword Tenchi normally uses; the blade resembling that of the Light Hawk Sword.

"Aqua-neesan... your weapon..." Sasami uttered, faltering just a bit, thought not noticing the beast's head starting to crack from the energy.

The other Tank, however, kept its focus on the mech, ready to tear it apart with its mandibles with Will next.

[identity profile] swordstabmagica.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Sayaka blinked, looking over at Morgan now that she knew that Mami and Homura were going to be okay. "No. I'll be fine. I just need to give my body a little bit to start repairing itself. I heal really fast."

In fact, that acid that had burned the massive hole in her hand had already stopped... well, eating more of her hand. Any moment the skin there should start rebuilding itself and sealing it back up.

[identity profile] stormfall-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"It's all right," Aqua insisted. "It's the help you've given me."

Accessing Negi's power, she unleashed a barrage of arrows at the Tank.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"And that's my help," replied Negi, unleashing a volley of light spears at the opponents.

[identity profile] kandrakar-heart.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
And there went another blast of lightning towards the tanks as the mech continued to try punching at the tank. And Will didn't really have much to say, she didn't really know anyone here that well.

[identity profile] saint-sami.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
They will really have to change that, Will. Especially Sasami.

Raising back her "blade", she pulled back enough and let out a yell as she brought it down, slamming it on the Tank's head, finally breaking through and cleaving it in half. As the Tank dropped to the ground, dead, the last Tank caught hold of this and began to charge at the four once more.

[identity profile] rainfell-aqua.livejournal.com 2011-08-18 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
A barrier of wind formed around Aqua to protect her from the attack, and she sped in close, striking with the Keyblade while summoning lightning.

It was pure luck that Kang happened to be looking in Kali's direction when Crucible swooped down and obliterated the assassins. He was far enough away that, if he were human, he wouldn't have been able to tell any of the figures on the roof apart, but his vision was slightly better, and he could barely make out one small form with wings and a bow. Sunlight glinting off of bronze scales confirmed it, and he cursed, nearly beheading an opponent.

He really didn't like Crucible being the one to give her the assistance either, having to work very hard to keep calm and focus on his current enemies.

He nearly lost it completely when Crucible picked Kali up in his claws.

Logically, he knew that if the bronze wanted her dead, he could have just left her there for the Ohm. Why snatch her up? Unless he wanted the kill for himself; it'd be far too easy to claim that it was an accident.

Or worse, what if he hoped to try and transform her into a dragon, wanting one of his lost children back? It hadn't worked with any of the first generation draconians back on Krynn, and it didn't stand a chance of working with a second generation child like her; she had always been a draconian.

That made no sense either, though, to snag her in the middle of such a huge battle to do such a thing, especially when there were so many others to protect. No metallic would just abandon them.

However, the instinctual fear and panic (the very clear memories of draconians being grabbed by metallics and killed during the War of the Lance rushing through his head didn't help) was strong enough to override the logic, and Kang nearly got beheaded himself by a Grunt claw. One of the Lirathians shoved him out of the way in time, taking care of it with a well-placed plasma blast.

And, to make things even worse, the temperature began to drop.

Mami barely noticed as Morgan finished; she was too wrapped up in her thoughts, in the overwhelming fear and confusion gripping her now. This was the second time.... but if the ship saved her the first time, what just saved her now? It couldn't have been that man's magic, could it...?

"... What happened? How am I still alive?"

It was easy to forget just how little Mami knew about Puella Magi. Best to handle this delicately, as Homura is sure to know.

The bombadiers would find their moving target was moving a little too fast for them to catch. Several small adjustments with the foot pedal of Toothless's rig allowed for several hairpin turns that allowed the pair to dodge the blasts and then they were gone, streaking away to strike somewhere else on the battlefield.

[Be aware!] Nehaalista signed as she picked up the grunts that had spawned. The battle, going on for as long as it had been, was starting to wear on her. The plate was heavy, her hooves ached, and the Light was taxing her. A half-remembered prayer healed her enough and renewed her spirit.

She didn't see the cold bombs drop, but she certainly felt it - it was like walking into a Northrend wind in a thin dress. She stopped her assault and let some Lirathians and GIA soldiers pick up the the grunts she'd pounded away at. [Why is it getting colder?]

"Can't say sarcasm helps much either," Tim commented, though he wasn't one to talk-- he did his fair share of snide comments. As Robin, it'd been part of his job to make jokes, he felt.

And then the storm rocked, and Tim was thrown off by the cultists being torn apart. "No," he managed out. Maybe they weren't innocents in this mess, but they were still sentients, still living. He'd still lost someone. He'd failed to help them. Because maybe they didn't deserve care, but they didn't deserve to die. "You didn't have to kill them, damnit!" Tim growled out, but he couldn't make a move toward him, couldn't do anything really, other than hold his own. Because these guys after him certainly meant business.

He kept his staff up in front of him, for the moment, ready to block any blows (at the hand, not the blade) that came his way. His cape and cowl had insulation, and he had the armour, but he wasn't exactly willing to give them a field test just yet. "Use non-lethal methods," he said, voice now approaching his order tone. "It's... more beneficial to us." The more practical answer won out. He could save morals for later.

He moved to knock the hand with the knife away, moving to aim a solid kick to the solar plexus of the one holding it.

*SNIFF* "Little Sasami's all growing up and cleaving Tanks in half...!" exclaimed Chamo happily, Barry giving him an approving "rrrrrrt".

Negi smirked as he joined in Aqua's headlong charge, twin executioner blades erupting from his knife-hand position to cleave some of its arms off.

Rachel had been human when the cold had started, and she was glad to morph to something that could hold it off better. She was freezing, her skin burning with the cold, and feeling her teeth begin to chatter before they turned into the sharper maw of the bear again, the fur protecting her from the brunt of it. Fortunately she'd had the time (while freezing a little) to get herself a better morph choice-- because the polar bear was a bit more substantial in the cold than a grizzly.

The morph meant that she was physically more or less fine. She was just tired. Emotionally and physically. There were no external marks left, after having morphed (again and again), but she felt herself get more sluggish as the battle wore on. But she had to keep fighting.

< Watch it! > Rachel 'shouted' to Kang and the woman there, from nearby. She then roared aloud, and let a huge bear paw slam down on a grunt, forcing it to stumble under the powerful blow. Unfortunately it was still difficult to fend so many off, but she was faring okay overall. At least when it was only the grunts.
