Lirath - Ground Battle

After dropping off some of the crew at Balisair, it was time for the crew to set course for Lirath. The situation greeting them wasn't the most promising.

The cracked surface of the moon called Lirath was one of its most unmistakeable features. One of the three moons of the planet Kehoe, it had been terraformed and served as a settlement for a hundreds of different species, some humanoid, some not. Despite occasional class struggles, environmental issues, and speciesism blocking their way, the darker parts of Lirath's past were largely left behind, and an era of peace and tolerance had reigned for quite some time. The only problems they'd had recently were with a terrorist group whose cause for their actions had been a mystery, but they weren't tied to any particular species or social group and had been likened to a cult and had largely gone quiet in recent years.

Now the peace on the moon of Lirath had been shattered by the invasion of the Ohm.

The capital city had been destroyed. Now, all that was left of the peoples of Lirath was evacuating from one of its smaller cities, one known as Smyteval. A desert city, existing in a valley in between a rocky range of canyons and mountains, even though it was in the low ground, the natural channels of rock served as bottlenecks for any Ohm attacking from the ground.

GIA squadrons patrolled in space, locked in explosive warfare, protecting the Bleed-gate that had been activated to see the evacuated ships to the refugee world, and a shield created by massively-powerful shield generators extended around the city and up into the atmosphere, creating a shielded tunnel so ships could escape.

Word had come that there was a vital weapon to be deployed on Lirath, one that needed to be destroyed, hence why the Transmigration 9 had been called in. Given the diverse crew, and the ships that were in its hangar, there was at least someone or something on board that could blow the weapon up if it did show.

There was no sign of it yet. Right now, there was just chaos, streams of evacuees boarding ships, armies of Ohm engaged with GIA soldiers outside the shields, and forcefields that everyone hoped would hold out just a little bit longer.

The crew would be following Leon's orders but finding themselves fighting side-by-side with GIA platoons, full of various species that were currently all getting their asses kicked severely.

"Yeah, should be fine." He managed a grin and a wink, sending Zouichi a quick salute. "Thanks. Nice catch, too!"

Primarily, the man in charge was focusing on triage, using the customary four colors of tape to indicate who could or couldn't wait. He spared no more than brief moments' conversation with those that were conscious, just to find out who they were, what they came in with, and to offer a bit of encouragement.

Yes, it didn't sit well on the surface to deny people care, and every one of those black markers hurt, but it was more unfair to lose four people while trying to save one that has a poor chance. Soon, he came across Morgan's path. He wasn't altogether familiar with the boy, but he did good work. While his eyes and most of his focus were in the process of checking the vitals of an unconscious newcomer, he decided to check on him. "How're you holding up?"

"Well let's see if they're ready for this." Sho said as he opened his mega smasher. It took a moment to charge before it fired and obliterated one large group of Ohm that were approaching.

"There may be a lot of them, but at least they aren't too tough." Sho round house kicked a grunt in the head, sending it flying like a football.

"Alright. I can just wheel them outside? Man, thank god these beds have wheels. Hey, someone get bed ten some water!"

Leg wounds tend to be bad; people don't realize that they'll bleed out and won't call for help soon enough. And a healer will be better for the broken bone - the most a regular medic can do here is set it. He quickly collects the necessary equipment to treat the gash. Even knowing that Miranda is pausing the effects of their injuries, time is important here.

"Oh, my God. I so don't care. If it works, it works." But on the other hand, he is a little bit impressed that she worked up the nerve to correct him.

And, you know, a little impressed that she managed to reverse localized time. That's sort of cool.

Aibghalien nodded as he watched the three others lay into the enemies -- and if he paid a particular amount of attention to how masterfully Celena manipulated her magic to intercept the Ohm and protect the others.

Oh, right, the Ohm. He traced the path of one Shrike as it rocketed towards him, calculating its speed trajectory lightning-quick, then began drawing on his arcane energies. The Shrike's psychic-lance glanced off the invisible force protecting him, though he wouldn't have moved even had it hit dead one... location and timing were paramount --

"Hold Monster (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/holdMonster.htm)."

That ought to send the Shrike hurtling to the ground directly in the middle of the Bombadiers.

Signum continues moving, sticking close to Sayaka. She wasn't abandoning either of those girls - she owed the two of them far more than that much. However, these Ohm were getting pretty seriously.

Twirling her blade to work the pump-action of its Cartridge System one-handed, Signum expends a casing of stored magic to ignite the blade in flames. With another flick of the wrist, she sends it slashing out in a wide arc in chain-whip form, trying to burn away some of those fast Shrikes. They're too spread out and Signum's movement too hampered for her to simply wipe all of them out, but she clips several of their wings before she's smacked in the back with a psychic blast, throwing off her rhythm. She recovers and focuses on defense, spiraling Laevatein around herself and Sayaka to at least keep the monsters at range. She aims herself toward where she thinks the Transmigration 9 crew's deployment site was from here. They need to get the injured girls somewhere where they could get medical care.

"Pretty good everyone," hissed Big Chill. "Let's keep the line held."

Tapping the Ultimatrix on his chest, it moved out as Ben struck it. Red creeped over his body until he was a flame patterned moth-alien who hissed out, "ULTIMATE BIG CHILL!"

Instead of gusting freezing air, he loosed a torrent of flames which burned and froze at the same time as he kept spitting flames, freezing Shrikes and Bombadiers solid before they crashed to the ground.

No problem. Take care of yourself.

With that, Zouichi brought the fighter into a flashy roll before taking off in search of more targets.

"If I start making M*A*S*H jokes, worry," he said, easily enough despite the effort involved. Even as he spoke, he tapped several spots on one patient according to traditional meridian theory, easing the patient's pain and stabilizing her vitals. "How are we holding up in general? I'm trying to pace myself... isn't easy, though."

Lupin's wand flashed as he shot spells left and right. "Impervius!" he incanted, pointing at the armor Devlin had absorbed. Then back to the advancing Ohm, launching jinxes, curses, Stunners, and everything he could muster into the fray. Though none of them were fatal, every one could take an Ohm out of the fight.

[identity profile] brustriese.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Signum, holding steady behind Celena's barriers and lashing out with Laevatein's length between them to saw off enemy wings and heads, notices something out of the corner of her eye.

Is that a Tank flying through the air? she wonders, and quickly confirms. There was such a swarm of Ohm visible two streets over she couldn't even see what they were attacking.

"Ben, Miss Starfire, focus on holding the line here," she says. "I'm going to reinforce another position and try to take out that Tank I just spotted." Confident that this group can overpower anything in the air, at least, she departs for a different thread.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"You have about twenty minutes before that spell wears off!" Aibghalien called after her.

"I'm afraid I'm much less entertaining than Hawkeye," he replied to the M*A*S*H comment. "So far we've still got our heads above water. I haven't seen anyone from our ship come in with anything severe yet, which is encouraging.--This guy's going to need you when you're done there.-- I just wish we could have gotten here sooner."

He turned to the next person, issuing orders to some of the GIA's nurses to send some of the Yellow and Green-labelled patients to their respective waiting areas.

Red Robin watched the crowds of people, mostly silent, and it was pretty easy to see Gar-- no, Beastboy, not quite the one he'd known, approaching. He was glad to see him there-- even if Tim was inherently distrusting (of basically everyone), this was still an alternate of someone who'd been a friend and teammate for years. That counted for something.

He nodded to him in greeting, before he replied, "Well enough. There doesn't seem to be much trouble. Understandable unrest, but general compliance." He glanced over, "And for you? No signs of trouble?"

Thankfully, the numbers of both the Grunts and Bombardiers began to diminish due to the combined efforts of the crew.

Unfortunately, they had another problem. The sounds of combat had worked the refugees into a panic, and the resulting confusion allowed a couple Ohm Assassins to pass through unnoticed. They were now making their way straight for the refugees, if no one managed to stop them in time.

Great, the ones coming up behind didn't seem like they'd be much fun. Rachel couldn't claim to be a fan of things she couldn't get to, let alone things that shot acid.

The whole caster versus melee thing was weird, yes, but nothing Rachel couldn't figure out. And she was okay with it, as much as she didn't like orders.

< Can do, > she rumbled, charging headlong on all four paws towards a group of the grunts, with all the speed and force in the grizzly that she could muster at that close a distance. It was still a substantial hit, but it was crashing into a huge enough group. She could keep a fair few occupied with her size, though, and the worst of them away from that other girl, who looked less like she could handle a huge physical fight.

< Want a piece of this? > she taunted, not knowing if they could really understand her. She smashed her paws together, cramming a few of them together with force. The blades cut at her paws, but she did her best to ignore the pain. Those ones, at least, should be distracted.

Shouting out devotional prayers in High Gothic, Cargn advanced forward, knocking aside the Guards gathering near him like they were toys with his staff, occasionally letting out a burst of fire from his Storm Bolter to make sure some of them stayed down. It wasn't long before he made his way closer to the Devourer Worm.

With a yell, he raised his staff, slamming it down against the massive creature's skin. Focusing his psychic powers through the staff, he sent a massive jolt of psychic energy surging through the beast's nervous system. Against a lesser enemy, it would have simply caused their brain to explode, but against a larger creature like the Worm, it could still cause it a massive amount of pain, throwing it off enough for someone else to strike a telling blow.

++Acknowledged,++ came the reply.

Cargn continued to open fire at the incoming swarm of enemies when he noticed an Ohm Tank charging their position. Cargn could likely cause it damage, but it was moving too fast. He needed someone to stop it in his tracks for him.

Vivio calmed down a bit as the Ohm numbers diminished. However, when she turned to check on the refugees, catching the sight of the Assassins moving in for the kill. Her panic set back in before she forced herself to swallow it and rush in, throwing herself between the Assassins and the evacuees.

"No... no, I won't let you! You'll have to go through me first!" she shouted, creating a barrier between her and the beasts.

"Well I learned some fun new alien swear words." Beastboy offered with a sheepish shrug, "I dunno man something doesn't feel right about all this you know? It's that "Everything is moving too smoothly" feeling." He paused and then added, "Got any wood I can knock on? I think I just doomed us all."

Querl frowned. "What simpleton designed this. Some neanderthal- There. I have installed new subroutines that should correct the problem short- SPROCK!" Said subroutines failed spectacularly as they came into conflict with another program that shouldn't remotely be a problem. "Imbeciles!" A few more adjustments and- "There! That should hold. The Guards approaching Clark wouldn't have much to worry about, his fists taking them out before they got close. They were tiring him out. That's probably what they were gunning for.

With the Tank charging in once more, Clark charged at it once more, stopping it in its tracks. This time, however, he added in his heat vision, hoping to pierce the beast's hide and give others a spot to attack it.

Faiza was right in the thick of the injuries. This was where her powers were most useful, after all, knitting injuries back together so that people would be okay and could get back to the fighting.

She rubbed at the back of her head, checking her hijab was in place. "Apparently the Skrull attack was good training after all."

It wasn't really aimed at anybody, but she didn't keep it to herself, either.

"Always a good start," Tim said lightly, listening to Beastboy's explanation of his own luck. He nodded a bit, then gave a short, clipped sort of laugh. "Not on me, unfortunately. Hopefully we can find some." He frowned, then, and said, "But I understand. The chances of this working perfectly are slim. In my experience, it just doesn't."

"I'll hold them." Angie frowned, concentration taken up by working to shore up other areas that were failing. "I swear, this is all held together with the programing equivalent of spit and chewing gum. Programming duct tape would have been better." Not a lot, of course, but it still would have been better. "I'll take over the power systems, keep the surges to a minimum. That should help with the regulation somewhat."
