Cassie remained quiet for a moment, watching Tom through sympathetic eyes. She knew that she could never really understand what he had been through, but she dearly wanted to help and she'd do her best.
"We called ourselves the Animorphs." Cassie told him, determined to try to make up for at least some of the secrets with honesty or at least as much she dared. "And, yes, he was also a part of our group."
"Well, he's a beautiful animal," Cassie commented as she continued to pet the dog. "And he's clearly loves you very much. At least, in his heart, I'd say he's yours as well."
Cassie examined the garden. "Really? Wow, that's wonderful!" Her eyes shone as she looked back at him. "Congratulations on your first almost harvest then! May I try one of the tomatoes when they're ripe? And the squash as well when they're also ready?"
She tried to reach back in her memory to what she knew of Tom, but she couldn't remember any mention of him gardening, but that didn't mean that he hadn't been interested in it before the war. "Have you been interested in gardening long?"
