The Carousel Boutique [Open]

Rarity stood in the simulation of The Carousel Boutique, recalling the colours and atmosphere of the place. A hologram of Opalescence was sitting on the table, swishing its tail and looking at Rarity.

"Do you think this gem would do, Opalescence?" She levitated a red gem and the cat blinked. "Or this one?" Rarity asked, levitating a blue one. The feline mewed and stretched.

The unicorn smiled and continued to play-work with the pony outfit she was currently pre-occupied with.

"I'd like to think she'd consider me at least something of a friend," he said as he straightened up, again slowly so as not to startle. "But I wouldn't speak for her, though at the very least I apparently have the interesting and probably unprecedented challenge of figuring out how to teach her martial arts." To judge by how pleased he sounded, it was a challenge he more than welcomed.

"Two. Chibi Kami-sama, and Sephy. I've had them both for years now."

And they were probably atoms at best, at the moment. That grim thought threw him off his stride for a moment.

"Martial arts? What is that?" Rarity tilted her head, a little curious. She saw him breaking stride and looked a little sad. "I'm sure they're in the pods too."

He wasn't gonna count on it, though he appreciated her efforts to cheer him up. "Martial arts is... complicated to describe, actually. What most people think of when they think of it is a way to fight without a weapon. It's a lot more complicated, and simple, at the same time, but it IS good for fighting."

Rarity made a face at the mention of fighting. She was a proper lady and she would not resort to brutish ways. However, everyone was different and she had to respect what they do. "Ah. I suppose I would not be surprised that she would want to learn that. Her legs are really strong from bucking apple trees after all."

She then showed him her work. "I may not be a fighter but I love to design and make clothes. Do you need one for the space prom?"

To each her own! He had no intention of judging her. Besides, from what little he'd sensed shortly after he'd wandered in, that wasn't anywhere close to her talent.

"Yes... she actually has an amazingly strong chi. If I can figure out how to adapt what I know for her, she'll be amazing. I just hope she's sleeping well now."

Again he pulled himself out of more serious thoughts to look at her work curiously. "...Wow. You are good." (This coming from a man who had custom-tailored Armani suits!) "I don't mind the plantsuit so much, so I've been holding off on trying to get any clothing for myself. I hear our supplies don't even really allow for something for everyone, so I don't mind going without. I'm... probably not going to the prom?" he said, not entirely sure. "Despite certain scurrilous opinions of my magneticism, I don't have anyone to go with."

"Chi? What's that?" Rarity asked once more before widening her eyes at the mention of him not going to the prom. "You can always go with your friends. That's what I did with Applejack along with our other friends last time. We had an excellent time eating donuts!"

She then eyed him up and down. Her customers so far have been female and she had yet to design anything for males. "I do need to practice human male fashion design as well but they have yet to visit the shop."

"Life force, would be another way to term it. Vital energy. It flows through all living creatures. And I don't have many friends on the ship yet." At least in his opinion, no matter the effort he'd gone to make them thus far. "Except for one, who I'll never get to the prom anyway... still nursing a hurt heart, among other reasons."

She was just trying to tempt him. He smiled, recognizing that even as it worked just a little. "Well. I still would feel guilty about taking from others who need it more, but I could be persuaded to model for you, at least. I can do THAT much!"

"There's always food and drinks at the party. I'll be there to have fun too! You can join Applejack and I."

Rarity was getting excited at the potential of making her very first human male outfit. "There are plenty of resources, don't worry. If you're worried about the payment, you can do so by being my model. Everyone deserves to be dressed nicely."

She was resisting the urge to levitate the measuring tape as well as her sketch pad. Opalescence mewed once more and rubbed Morgan's legs as a plea.

He just shook his head, though he was still smiling. "Well, it would be rude of me to argue now that you've said all that! I'm used to dressing very simply, so to assuage my guilt, can you make something that's both excellent for a prom and yet simple enough to wear around the ship? I at least promise not to wear it while I'm exercising."

"I have seen suits as formal wear for human males... Even without the jacket, you would still have the long sleeves that may not be simple enough. Hmm..." Rarity poked around with her sketch pad, the pants could be worn for any occasion but the shirts were proving to be tricky.

He leaned over to look at her sketch pad curiously. "What about layers? Undershirt, semiformal button-down shirt, jacket. For casual use just the undershirt is fine. With the button-down and the jacket, it's stylish and classy enough that I could safely make an appearance at the prom in even your company!"

Though after knowing Rarity for all of five minutes, he somehow suspected the trickiest person to get dressed up would be Applejack...

Rarity's horn glowed brightly as the pencil drew the sketches at top speed. "This is a brilliant idea! I suppose you want to stick to black and white as well?"

"If I was choosing, yes, but I leave that to you. I wear black because it's simple and easy and I look good in it, but anyone who tells me I really ought to wear more colors is right." He lowered his voice conspiratorially. "No matter how much I protest."

He watches the pencil move by what was undoubtedly magic, intrigued. Of course, a unicorn having magic made sense, but it was still interesting to watch.

"I guess I can make it navy blue. It's almost as dark as black but not totally black." Rarity muttered as she levitated a colour pencil to give the sketch life.

"Well, I do look good in that," he said, not at all modestly. "The only thing that really matters to me, honestly, is that it not impede my movements too much."

"Then we have to take some measurements." Rarity levitated the measuring tape and it looped around various parts of his body. Quickly, she noted down the length of his limbs and width of his torso on the sketch pad.

"Two layers of clothes... need a bit of room for moving..." She muttered to herself and she added extra length on the measurements taken.

"You probably need to stop by the clothiers in person for some adjustments before I make the final product."

"I was down there once, actually. I wanted to make sure someone on the ship was able to repair my coat, if necessary."

He thumped the fabric where it hung over his chest. It sounded odd, and moved even more strangely, like liquid metal instead of fabric.

Rarity looked at the patched up fabric oddly, examining it closely. "What is that made of? It is nothing that I've ever seen."

She then looked at him worriedly. "I hope that doesn't deter you from coming down to do a fitting."

"I'd be lying if I said I knew exactly." Morgan prodded the material, letting it wave heavily once more. It certainly didn't seem to be a lightweight garment. "It was made through science so advanced it's basically magic. Some metal alloy that's as durable as armor but as flexible as cloth. It even has a pocket dimension inside it. I paid through the nose for it, but it was worth it."

He shrugged the coat off, both to give her implicit permission to examine it and to make the upper-body measurements easier to take. "Of course I'll come! I have to look my best for the company I'll be in, after all."

Rarity poked and prodded the material, fascinated by its properties. "This is a really unusual material. Is it found naturally in your world?"

It was quite heavy -- it was a form of metal, after all. But it moved absolutely fluidly.

Morgan shook his head. "The Scientist --" the capital S was very clear -- "who created it was unbelievably skilled in manipulating matter. This might be the only material like it in existence."

"Interesting. What is the name of this material?" Rarity poked it cautiously as the material moved slightly.

"I.... don't know!" Morgan was honestly surprised he'd never thought to ask. Of course, in hindsight it seemed an obvious question, but somehow it had never come to mind all these years.

Rarity raised an eyebrow. "Oh. That's quite alright. I'm sure there will be other opportunities to explore it further."

With that, she left the coat alone and finalized his measurements as well as the design of the suit. "I think that would be all. I will contact you again for a fitting at the clothiers. Is there anything else you need help with?"

"You're welcome to look at it any time you want, really! I may not have done anything to actually make it, but it's still mine, so I'm proud of it." He winked as he shrugged it back on.

"Well, considering I came in here entirely by accident, and I'm leaving with not only a new suit on the way but the promise of charming friends as companionship at the prom, I almost feel like needing anything else would be pushing my luck unreasonably far!"
