Cassie laid her hand on top of his gently, grateful for the contact. It might not seem like much, but to her it meant a great deal. It was a silent reminder that she was not alone.

"I'm fine, Jake," she whispered softly. And, maybe, if she said that enough times, one of these times it would be true. "Please don't worry about me. I'm just fine."

There were more important things to deal with right now then her state of mind. She'd made it through the last war and so she'd make it through this one too.

She managed a smile. "Let's talk about something happier. I think that a new topic might do us both a lot of good." And she didn't think that this current one was doing either of them any good.
