A home fit for an overlord?

Walking into the Sensorium's today, or at least this one in particular would place you on the Island of Birk, often described as "Sturdy"

And on one side of Berk's village sat a humble but recently built house at the edge of a field. Not much of Berk was flat so this area in particular belonged to one of the most passive aggressive creatures in all of the Hairy Hooligans tribe.

Sheep.

Yes the Sheep of Berk were particularly dumb as far as sheep went. So much so that back in the days of Dragon raids one could get snatched up from an entire flock, and the others would barely move away to protect themselves.

So it was up to the brave and fearless shepherds of the Viking village to vigilantly protect these pathetic puffy pasty faced patsy's of the livestock world.

That...was not a job for Ruffnut and her twin brother. No that was a job for the adults. They had always been stuck on fire patrol.

But tending to the sheep in times of peace? That was a duty fit for the twins according to their elders.

Frankly Ruffnut hated it. Sheep were about the stupidest creatures she had ever known.

And yet since being on Stacy she kind of missed the dimwitted puffballs.

So she sat ontop of one cross legged while it grazed and stared intently at her families home. Before Hiccup had made peace between the Dragons and the Vikings the house had stood strong for a whole two months! Luck really, nothing more then that.

And after so many re-buildings the tribe knew how to slap buildings together. Even Ruffnut knew some basics about building a home just from helping.

And that was precisely why she was here today. To ponder the construction of a home.

Not just any home though, a lair, a den, a nest, a base, a castle worthy of the eventual overlord she would become. It couldn't be too big to start. She was only one warrior after all and even if she asked the people she trusted to help her protect it if enough people rallied together they would lose.

So for now a small home, but it would have to make up for what it lacked in size by being perfect for her. Where to start?

Hana had been looking for a way to pass the day away when he walked into the Sensorioum.

He was immediately impressed with today’s set up.

The place felt very primal, with comfort or convenience added as a second, or more likely last, thought.

Wood gave appreciative creak at being underfoot and rock threw out patterns of crumbled stone at the shift of weight. Walking through the village gave a sense of you making a mark without necessarily meaning you'd disrupted something in a negative way.

With reckless abandon he scaled the walkways and cliffs, the contrasting textures of naturally formed rock, cool grass and rough woodwork hitting against his running feet and pressing against the exposed skin of his hand and arms, brisk Birk wind whipping at his face and pulling at his hair as he climbed and jumped his way through the area, feeling exhilarated as he explored the contained island in a childlike way.

He’d just finished balancing precariously on a haphazardly constructed fence that rimmed the edge of a cliff, throwing himself off onto the safety of the grass just to giggle at the rush of his body desperately trying to tell him not to threaten its safety in such a way when he spotted...

A sheep.

He just lay there and stared at the blotch of wool for a moment before pushing himself into a sitting position to see similar blotches patterned across the landscape.

Curious, he reached out a hand toward the first and closest one. It didn’t react as he patted the soft head and tugged his fingers through the tough, knotted wool on its back.

His childish side egging him on, he brought his face close to the long one of the sheep and opened his mouth wide, taking a deep breath and shouting loudly at the livestock. The animal barely even blinked and continued to chew its cud as the force of wind coming from Hana’s yelling blew at the fur on its ears.

Hana gave a smile at the dismissive attitude of the creature and put his hand upon its head once again to pet it.

The sheep didn’t seem to care much about Hana's bipolar treatment of its own person.

"You know," said a familiar book, unconsciously echoing her thoughts, "your village would actually look pretty sweet in a Netherworld. The whole cliffs and bridges thing it's got going on is pretty sweet."

The Overlord looked grimly unhappy and upset, and was doing a poor job of trying not to show it. This probably stemmed from the fact that once again, the loyal leader minion is hauling the Sacred Tome around.

"No. Really. You think."

Forgive Zetta his harshness. It DID suck for him.

"It's not like I can't fake having a body in the sensorium any time I want anyway. Besides, that just gives me motivation to go kick some Ohm ass again!"

As long as he's liked that's all that matters~

Hana stopped in his current attempt at making the sheep bleat (which it seemed very uninterested in doing) to look around for the source of the voice calling.

It was hard to miss the girl riding toward him on the back of a sheep and, honestly, it was also hard to come up with a decent reaction. Luckily, he was spared having to think of one when a gust of strong Birk air hit him in the face and sent his hair whipping in all directions.

What was left was a tall, slender but pretty well muscled boy, with relatively long messy blonde hair covering his face as he attempted to spit out some of the strands that'd been blown into his mouth.

Judging by Zetta's glare, he knew which way HE was taking it.

Or maybe that was because of the wig.

"What's got YOU so thoughtful in here?"

An insult and an attack. Best greeting ever.

Or it would be if Hana was a masochist. Hell, he wouldn't even mind if it was friend doing this to him. But it wasn't, it was some stranger jumping him while he couldn't even see!

Hana went down with a yell, holding his face as they both hit the ground with a resounding 'thud'.

After a moment of groaning he pushed the other teen with surprising strength away enough so he could look at her clearly, wildfire hair sticking in all directions he looked straight at the girl.

Finally, he could ask a clear and sensible question. "What the hell, dude?" Indeed.

Hana didn't look entirely convinced because he'd doubted there were many people with the same blonde mane as he had but he shrugged it, and the punch, off.

He pushed himself up off the ground, patting the seat of his pants as he actually got a good look at the girl infront of him.

She seemed vaguely familiar. He remembered meeting her, but it must have been only once or something, because he couldn't even recall a name of any sort. Maybe it was in the first few hazy days of arriving here?

"Hey, don't I know you?"

[identity profile] moms-temperment.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Hana was unable to suppress a little chortle at the use of 'hairy hooligan' in a name but was soon smiling widely and looking around the environment again with an impressed expression.

"So you're the one who made all this? This is your home?"
badassfreakingoverlord: (Standard Zetta)

He looked around curiously -- then again, checking for Tuffnut, just as a standard Ruffnut Mental Health Condition check. "From what I saw, it looks like your people pretty much lived like this in general. Except for those really big buildings. That's where your Chief lived?"

[identity profile] moms-temperment.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hana could make an educated guess as to who those people were so he didn't bother asking and instead moved on since it seemed not to be something Ruffnut wanted to talk about.

"You are so lucky." He complimented, nudging one of the sheep with his foot and looking up once more at the impressive cliff faces.
badassfreakingoverlord: (dull surprise)

[personal profile] badassfreakingoverlord 2011-06-11 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Huh." Well, given what he knew of Hiccup, he had to guess that social stratification in Birk was a bit less extreme than in a Netherworld.

"So why the house-building?"

[identity profile] moms-temperment.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
For now, Hana decided to just walk alongside her, not realizing he could jump onto one of the sheep. Sure, Ruffnut was doing it but they were her sheep.

"Well, just look at this place. Just living here would be awesome. And I bet you did all sorts of fighting too, didn't you?" Afterall, that's what vikings did, right? Fight and eat. Sounds pretty awesome to him.
badassfreakingoverlord: (do not read the overlord)

[personal profile] badassfreakingoverlord 2011-06-11 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It WAS. Zetta was actually pretty surprised to hear all that.

"Most Overlords go the 'castle' route, but without a Netherworld to put it in, you'd have a problem transporting it later anyway. Some of them do palaces. Others have a literal lair. But a house isn't a bad start."
