Party Down! [Open]

Paco hopped up on a box to survey the work already done.

It was getting toward “evening” in the City. They’d hung a sheet up on the Great Wall, and a couple people were currently adjusting the movie projector that had been constructed in Engineering so that the picture would fall exactly on the sheet. He’d collected the recordings from the Media Library himself, everything on there was appropriate for pretty much everyone who might show up.

At the other end of the space he’d picked for the party, a few people were testing the sound system (also constructed in Engineering) and arguing with each other, probably about the music. Well, he’d done his best, anyone who didn’t like it could throw their own dance party somewhere else.

In the middle, up against the outer wall of a building they’d hung lights from, Kang and his helpers were putting the finishing touches on the drinks area. And there was plenty of space for people to mingle or play tag or whatever if the shows and music weren’t to their taste.

Paco grinned and cupped his hands around his mouth to form a megaphone.

“OKAY EVERYONE,” he shouted. “TRY NOT TO DO ANYTHING THAT WILL LOSE US OUR PARTY PRIVILEGES AND LET’S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!”

[[OOC: Post-Melting Clock! Mix! Mingle! Make fun of the music, thread with people you haven’t threaded with before! It’s like a Pod Pop for oldbies!]]

The Chancellor, too, was just...observing. He nodded politely to the man.

"Are you chaperoning or simply observing for the moment?" he inquired politely. After all, though the party seemed to have little immediate appeal for adults such as himself, it was entirely possible that this fellow was young for his... sort.

"Chaperoning. I must admit, the music is... very different than what my daughters generally preferred."

Ah, well. That took him mildly aback for a moment. He had not thought for a moment that this... fellow would have children, let alone one that were called by the same terms as a human child would be.

Well, that was his own fault for being narrow-minded. "I suppose that's a first, a parent complaining that music doesn't sound what his children like," he said with a smile.

A fangy smile. "I believe cultural matters in the Empire are somewhat more... homogenous, than in the Solar System. But my daughters have excellent taste. Veronica, Timothea, and Winifred play the solar harp beautifully, for instance."

"Solar harp?" he repeated. "If I may, what exactly is that?"

He was envisioning simply a harp sitting out in the sun, which he was certain was completely incorrect.

"Much like Earth harps, but relying on processed audio signals from sun-charged cells, rather than merely acoustics."

"...Ah." The unintentional pause before the mild expression spoke volumes of how much he had failed to understand this.

The Chancellor can tell. He tries again. He explained evolution, cloning, and artificial intelligence to a 14th century English knight. He can manage. "A harp with technological modifications that make it louder and the sound sharper."

"Ah, I see," he said. Which he did not -- how on earth could any amount of Muggle tinkering improve the sound of a harp? But he at least understood the explanation this time. "I don't think half the people here would recognize even a normal harp if they saw one..."

The Chancellor chuckles. "Quite possibly."
