Training Day... [Open]

Between opening her little restaurant and her usual job with helping out Nathan Petralli, Sasami's found a little time in her day to do some practicing. Ever since she had went through that brief practice run with Reimi, Sasami's been trying to improve her aim using the bow and arrow. While the string pulling was easy to handle, it was her aim that she really needed help on. With just one target, only one arrow made it and even then, it barely struck.

But, now wasn't the time to mope. She had to get better. She knew her friends were in trouble and she had to be ready to defend them when the time came. She'd keep trying to improve, no matter what.

As she set up another arrow, she adjusted a small bracelet on her arm, seemingly wooden in nature...

Lion-O was heading to the sensoriums to do some training. He entered one to find a young girl with blue hair firing arrows at a target. Lion-O decided to watch her for a bit, hoping each time she would hit the target.

Aim, pull, fire... another hit. Still off, but it was a hit.

Sasami let out a sigh, relaxing from her training a bit. "I must be doing something wrong. I was doing fine the last time I was doing this..." she said. Turning her head a bit, she caught sight of Lion-O and jumped a bit.

"Oh, I'm sorry! I guess I didn't realize others might have needed this..."

"Don't worry, practice as much as you need to, I can find another room." Lion-O replies with a warm smile. "Unless you need any help, of course."

Jr. waited until there was a pause in her practice to speak up, not wanting to break her concentration.

"Hey, not bad!"

"Huh?" She blinked and turned to see Jr. Her surprised look turned into one of sheepish embarrassment as she realized she had been watched the entire time.

"Aha... th-thanks. I'm still learning, but... eh..."

He was offering help? Well, it couldn't help to ask!

"Do you know anything about bows and arrows? I've been trying to practice using one, but I haven't been that good with them." She asked.

"If I were a little more versed in the bow and arrow, I'd definitely offer to help you out. But you seem to be doing a good job on your own, anyway!"

He looked over the target Sasami was practicing on. "I know someone from home who's pretty good at using one. If she wakes up anytime soon, you two could make for quite the team!"

"So that's the route you decided to go huh?" Mindy came out of the dark, in full on Hit Girl regalia, watching Sasami for a little while before deciding to pop out. "I'm not making fun, no way, a weapon is a weapon. I prefer the guns through, if it has to be projectile: more damage, easier to get a hold of than fumbling around with a bow."

She shrugged. "What made you go for this weapon anyway?"

"Well, it's not my forte, but I learned some archery before." Lion-O says as he examines Sasami's bow.

"Maybe it's the arrows and not the bow. Are you notching them right?"

"Notching them? Ah..." Sasami blinked a bit in confusion. She decided to go take a look at some of those she fired. Noticing a few of them, her eyes went wide a bit as she noticed what was on the back of them.

"...oops..."

"Oh, really?" Sasami said, blinking as she heard that. "Who would that bed?"

Someone else besides Reimi who knew how to fire an arrow? She was curious now!

"Oh, Mindy! Hi!" Sasami said, a bit surprised. She was good at sneaking around like that. One day, though...

"Well, it's mostly because Reimi-nee taught me a few pointers and it got me interested!"

"Is that right?" Mindy reared her legs back and hopped to her feet (one of the neat things that Chase had taught her) and looked around Sasami a moment, staring at the girl.

"So take a shot. I want to see you up close."

"Okay...!" With a nod, Sasami turned to take another shot. Right now, a bit more pressure was on her - someone was watching and taking notes.

Aim, pull, fire...

...and completely and utterly miss. "Ahh..."

"So you haven't been doing this long," Mindy said, though again, she didn't sound condescending at all. "That makes sense. I mean, you probably didn't have to train to fight as a princess or whatever. First of all, ease your body a little bit, don't be so tense or you're bound to fuck up and miss."

She put a hand to the girl's shoulder to loosen it.

"Second, get a good stance, so when you fire, you can't blame it on anything but your depth perception. You could have the best sight in the world and mess up because your stance wasn't solid enough."

As if to demonstrate, she brought out her guns and, hardly looking, shot two bullet holes into the target.

Truth be told, her mom did train her to use a staff soon after their reunion, but with the ship screwing with her memories, Sasami's skills there were a bit sub-par. Besides, the KAIN incident did show that close range wasn't good at all.

Watching Mindy's actions, she couldn't help but blink at how effortlessly she had done that. "Wow..."

"Yeah!" he went on. "Her name's MOMO. She's not that much older than you are, theoretically." Because MOMO's existence as a Realian - a synthetic human - made it a little more than being the child she appeared to be.

"But if she were awake, I'm sure she'd get along really good with you! Bow and arrow thing aside, even."

And knowing about the staff would actually have worked in Sasami's favor: Mindy had used staffs well, especially if they had a pointy end to skewer people with.

"Like I said, I have a few years of training on you, and keep in mind that these are different from handling a bow. Just being slightly off kilter can ruin your shot, so you gotta train good and long to get good at it. Once you have that, you'll barely need to look yourself. Might wanna strengthen your arms a little, so it'll get easier."

Well, in Sasami's case, "older" might be "older physically" what with suspended animation and all. But, the idea is still the same.

"Wow... who knows, maybe she'll wake up one day!" she said, smiling a bit.

"She definitely will!" he said matter of factly, crossing his arms with a nod. "I know I was with her - and my other friends before waking up here. So they've all gotta be down there! Especially since Stacy's looking for the awesome people."

"Right...! The same's for myself and everyone else!" Sasami said, nodding. True, she'd been here for quite awhile and still no sign of her family, but she wasn't giving up hope. Not now!

Sasami nodded at Mindy's advice. She was right, especially seeing how Reimi had done her practicing so effortlessly. Then again, Sasami didn't have years of training to perfect things - she probably only had months and that's being generous.

Taking into account what she had said, Sasami took up another arrow and took aim, then fired. Still no bullseye, but it was at least on the target.

A few months was more than enough time to get it right. Mindy would have told her straight away practice and a good teacher had all the tools she needed to be a decent shot.

"That's better, see? I can give you pointers, but the more you do this, the more you'll see what works for you too. See, just get into your stance, straight up, then make sure your arms are at level with each other. Then se the target, and fire."

"'Til then, though, I think we're pretty good at holding down the fort!"

And then, of course, his curiosity poked in. "What sorta things have you learned so far with this? Show me a little!"

Lion-O can't help but smile.

"Make sure to natch them first. It will make the arrow fly straighter."
