He waits as Wyn explains her reasoning for talking to inanimate objects before giving a long-suffering sigh. "Magic," he says flatly, "doesn't exist. At least not in the way the term is widely used. At best 'magic' simply describes phenomena that have yet to be explained by science."

He would have thought anyone interested in scientific matters would have understood that much. Still, he doesn't object to the subject change. "Actually, that's why I came in here. I wanted to familiarise myself with the different projects being worked on."

And by that he means 'go through people's stuff'.
