The circuitry gets a pointed look. "It's circuitry. It's not alive, and it's incapable of hearing you, much less feeling anything by way of emotions or the like. While others might treat animals like sentients, at least it can be argued that they're capable of hearing you when addressed and display a range of emotional responses."
