He wasn't so much frightened as baffled by the choice. Who really went around calling himself "The Doctor"? Okay so it wasn't his real name. That was obvious. The part where it was so obvious was the problem. If you were going to pick a fake name, shouldn't you pick one that wasn't so obviously fake?
"Alright," Daniel agreed. Mostly because he wasn't going to argue over whatever the man wanted to call himself. Even if it didn't make sense if he was trying to pick an alias. As strange as it was, they did have bigger problems.
The Doctor gave him a friendly pat, actually more like a heavy slap to the shoulder. Daniel was thankful he was balanced, because he was stronger than he looked. There was something incredibly eccentric going on in there. Daniel could see that he was (probably) smiling, and he sounded and looked kind of young, but he exactly hadn't heard those expressions used by anyone under seventy. It gave off the impression that he'd wandered in some decades too late.
Right, his advice. It didn't actually help that much. Everything was dark in here, with some lights from the pods and the other smaller lights. Daniel tried anyway.
He was trying so hard that he couldn't have heard him right. Ship? What was he talking about? "Um. No. Can you?"
Daniel tried listening. He could hear more pods popping, more people talking. There was a kind of ambient throbbing drone too. Was that what he meant?
Never live down that LINDA lot, will you?
