And I will smite my enemiiiiieeeeees! [Closed]

At last, progress on one front; the wizard had finally arranged for that sword-forging that he'd promised Ronnae what seemed like lifetimes ago.

He'd gone to the usual efforts of tidying up the place: cleaning out the area around the teleport circle, scrubbing free the caked-on layers of ash and grit from many an explosion, and laboriously fumigated the last lingering hints of beer-waterfall out of the cracks of his furniture. Now, having called the orc girl, he simply folded his forelegs in front of him and lounged on a rug near his comfortable furniture, reading from a book that floated in midair.

(No. He hadn't bothered to dispel the magic that had him in a draconic form at the moment. Why should he?)

Ronnae nodded with an appreciative smile. "It hasn't been e-easy. Not since the day it was tasked to me and I went on the journey to gather the materials... required for the forging." She looked away momentarily remembering when the finished blade was entrusted and bound to her her body shivering slightly.

She calmed down quick enough to continue. "I don't mind doing whatever is needed of me to do the task. I had already come to terms a long time ago that this was something that needed to be done and that I had the honor to take on this burden, with or without a chance at easing it in the future." She kept her gaze down, her young features shadowed by a lot of pain in her short life.

"You are very brave, Ronnae," Daja said softly. "Seeing what you need it for, I believe that your magic may be more suited to this task than mine, Aibghalien" Daja said. "Nonetheless, if our magics are compatible I can use mine to add protection spells, and strengthen the blade. I can ensure that it will never rust or weaken, and that the blade will always remain sharp. If you are willing?"

From the small bag she had brought with her, Daja retrieved 5 small ornamental figures of metal - all steel, and all already imbued with Daja's magic. Fittingly, these were all enchanted with protection spells - she kept them around her home and forge, to ward off intruders, ill will, and bring health and long life. But for toda, they would serve as an adequate test.

Ronnae let go of a breath she didn't even know she was holding, and was very happy to have the attention moved from her. This would give her time to settle down and relax. She edge back a bit to give them room to work with whatever spells they needed to use, and sat comfortably on the ground looking curiously at the two chat.

Daja watched with fascination as Aibghalien transformed. "Amazing," she said. "I have never seen magic like it. Truly, you possess wonderful gifts."

She left the figurines on a small, unmagicked table, and took a step back. "These all contain protection spells - for health and vitality, for long life, for warding against ill will, for warding against intruders, and for calm and tranquility," she said, pointing to each in turn.

"Possibly," Daja said with a wry smile.

Daja watched carefully as Aibghalien shrunk the statue, keeping a close eye on the flickers of magic that she could see. The statue had already glimmered to her sight, but now the light brightened as Aibghalien's magic joined hers. She reached out to touch the statue with her fingers, sending her magic into it to inspect the spells more closely.

"Yes, my magic is completely intact," she confirmed. "Perhaps to be certain, we should try some of the specific spells you wish to use?"

"Good," Daja said, satisfied. "There don't appear to be any problems. Now, do you have any further tests you would like to run, or should we get down to business?"

Ronnae looked up again, noticing that the experiments were all done with. She awaited curiously for the moment she'd be needed. She'd just stay on her spot till then, she felt a bit uneasy bringing Shadowmourne into a friend's house.

"What were you thinking of trading?" Daja asked, her face neutral. She didn't intend to charge too highly at all - Ronnae's situation and elicited her sympathy, and she certainly wasn't going to overcharge them. However, a sword like this - both of its size and with the added magical spells - was a large working. To do such a work without any payment at all would leave them both with significant unpaid debt in the books of their lives.

"I work in engineering. If there's anything you'd like made I can do that for you as a trade. I also have some raw materials, or labor is fine too. My mom was a blacksmith, a really skilled one well known all over. I helped her at times, so I don't mind helping out at your shop if nessesary." She spoke a bit timidly, but determined.

"Enchantments and raw materials are a possibility," Daja said calmly. Daja had a good store now, but she was always on the look out for metals - she never knew when she might be low again. "What kinds of enchantments would you have available, and of what nature are the materials that you possess?"

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-02-27 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I got a good deal of raw minerals delivered up for my personal use. I haven't had a chance to experiment with them since they were native to the Moai's planet. So I wouldn't be able to tell you their properties just yet."

"As useful as such an amulet sounds, I am wary of using anything to artificially booster my endurance." Daja had heard horror stories of people who became addicted to substances designed to improve their strength - Aibghalien's amulet might not have the same risks, but Daja preferred to rely on her own natural strengths instead. "What else do you have available?"

She turned to Ronnae. "Are they metals?" she asked, curious. A new and unknown metal...that was always interesting.

She nodded, "Some of them have the properties of metals, so I'd guess yeah. I'm an experienced miner, but like I said. I haven't gotten to experiment with them so I wouldn't be able to tell you with a hundred percent accuracy. But that they share common aspects of known metals is definitely certain."

Daja blinked. "How does that bag work?" she asked, distracted momentarily from bartering by the strange and unusual magical item.

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-02-27 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ronnae smiled looking at the bag, "Hey neat! You have those too!? We have bags like those back home, actually I think the largest one was an actual hole you could fold and carry around, then unfold it and put or take out anything."

"Amazing," Daja said, fascinated. "How much space fits inside?"

After her considerable payment from Zetta, storage had become an issue for Daja. Oh, she had constructed a safe for the gold and silver, of course - but her cottage and forge was becoming increasingly filled with swords, armour, and other scrap metals.
