Meet N' Greet

Part of the crew might be gone, but life on the ship goes on. In fact, new people have woken up and, eventually, they've been spat out into the mess hall.

Maybe it's better to introduce them to some of the worst aspects of ship life first, right?

Anyway, the word is out that there's new people, and someone should probably go say hello. Before the n00bs mistake the glop for crew.

That's alright because Mei Ling is happy to explain. "Well, Bacchus is Roman the god of wine while Neptune is the Roman god of the sea. Essentially, it means alcohol is a greater downfall of men compared to all other things."

"Really? I've never been on one of these before so I can't really disagree."

"Not sure what a Roman is, but hell, I'll run with it. Can't say I disagree either, but... well, a man's entitled to his vices, ain't he, darlin'?" Jim smiled a tired half-smile at the girl.

"I ain't ever been on something this size before. Mine are much smaller ... and more steel and glass, less skin. That's the part that gives me the creeps."

She smiled back, thinking back to a certain gruff smoker she worked with, "I suppose he is."

"It really is amazing, though, isn't it? It has so many things."

"Amazin' is one word for it. So this sort of thing doesn't exist, wherever you come from?"

She shakes her head, "No, not at all. There's space travel but nothing even close to this."

Jim pauses for a moment - weird. "Guess it's second nature to me. I don't even think about it anymore." He decides to take another tack. "Well, you look as Terran as anyone I ever met. Gonna take a stab and say you're from Old Earth. On the money?"

"Old Earth?" Mei Ling gives him a confused look, "I'm afraid I don't really know what you mean by that."

"You know - the Terran homeworld. Cradle of civilization and all that jazz. Where we all come from." Raynor frowns again. "You sure you don't know it?" He'd been pretty sure, too...

"Well, I'm just from Earth, not Old Earth or anything like that. I'm not sure what a Terran is either..."

"Earth, Old Earth - same thing. Just what we call it out in Koprulu Sector." He shakes his head, chuckling at her. "Terrans are you and me, darlin'. Humans. Homo sapiens."

Mei Ling smiles, "Oh, I should have guessed." She laughs slightly.

"Oh, I don't think I introduced myself, I'm Mei Ling."

"Jim Raynor, Captain of the Hyperion - call me Jim." He throws an informal salute in her direction. "Mighty pleased to make your acquaintance, miss."
