Meet N' Greet

Part of the crew might be gone, but life on the ship goes on. In fact, new people have woken up and, eventually, they've been spat out into the mess hall.

Maybe it's better to introduce them to some of the worst aspects of ship life first, right?

Anyway, the word is out that there's new people, and someone should probably go say hello. Before the n00bs mistake the glop for crew.

There's a slight yelp, a soft noise of surprise, as Bandit quickly skitters away from the fast-approaching human-shaped energy projectile. God, don't humans know to tread slowly and step lightly? It's like, rule 1 of everything ever. Seriously.

He sniffs her tentatively, picking up traces of typical human scent, flesh and sweat, while at the same time a more prominent smell of ozone fills his nostrils. What an odd combination. BANDIT B. REAL DOG. R U REAL HUMAN?

Dani stared at Bandit and then giggled, scratching him behind the ears. "You can talk? What a cool doggy! And I'm kind of a real human. I'm a halfa, half human, half ghost, clone. How can you talk boy?"

He tilts his nose downwards so that she can clearly see shiny, stainless metal nub on his head, flanked by two slim antennae. The little metal ridge house his language center, what allows him to put his thoughts into vocalization patterns.

Dani keeps from saying 'aww' herself and pets Bandit some more. She hasn't seen a dog in forever and she likes dogs. Especially happy dogs, so trying to cheer him up. "I'm sure you'll see her again, boy."

It's a good try, Dani, but the lady's g-o-n-e. In that sense. So it only makes Bandit shake his head lightly.

Dani, being young, doesn't usually want to take people being gone as being dead. Hearing that Bandit had lost someone though, she just wanted to make him happy all the more. She just wasn't sure how.

"I'm sorry," Dani said and hugged the dog.

Bandit gently puts his head against Dani's collarbone, and licks her cheek. He's not going to be too sad about it. Losing Doctor Berry was a harsh moment, but she's dead and there's nothing he can do. Things die; it's just the way things go. After a couple more seconds he pulls away from the hug; he knows that it's a comforting gesture for humans, but he doesn't like the invasion of his space; most dogs don't, in fact. But Bandit is polite, well-socialized and well-trained. He can handle a lot.

This could be distraction from sad? Well, Dani's happy enough to go with that. "Do you have a lot of words like that?

Dani stared for a few moments before she snapped her fingers in realization. "Ah, I get it! You must be pretty smart, to think like a dog and to think like a human too."

BANDIT HAVE LONG TRAINING. DOC-TOR ROSE-ANNE TEACH. ALSO MANY OP-ER-AY-SHUN. MAKE SMART. BANDIT BETTER THAN DOG. He's not quite sure how much of that he can get across. Humans have a tendency to freak out when they hear him speak for the first time, but short of seeing him in action, which is jarring, they always treat him, well, like a dog. Which is fine, up to a point. WHAT B BOSS NAME?

"Still, it's amazing. Bandit's a really cool dog!" Dani said with a bright grin. Luckily for Bandit, it takes a whole heck of a lot to freak out Dani. "I'm Dani. Nice to meet ya, Bandit."

"Not really. Kind of a...uh, I think the term is lone wolf? I'm kind of traveling on my own," Dani said.

"Because I'm half ghost. I'm only half human, so...I wouldn't smell like a normal one," Dani said. She wasn't sure how else to really explain it to him.

"Yeah, it's kind of half dead, I guess," Dani said, scratching her head. "I...know how to explain it scientifically, but I can't really make it...simple."
