Meet N' Greet

Part of the crew might be gone, but life on the ship goes on. In fact, new people have woken up and, eventually, they've been spat out into the mess hall.

Maybe it's better to introduce them to some of the worst aspects of ship life first, right?

Anyway, the word is out that there's new people, and someone should probably go say hello. Before the n00bs mistake the glop for crew.

"Possibly. Though most of them seem to have rather good control over their responses."

A pause. "What is your designation?"

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Another shrug. "I can hope for some kinda entertainment, right? And Freelancer-which was a lot easier to do when I actually had a body."

She pauses. "This AI complex thing sucks."

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Another long pause. "You mean when you were assigned to a SPARTAN? Besides, I don't see the entertainment in watching people get worked up needlessly."

"The what?"

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I mean when I had a body. As in my own, personal body." She pauses, considering. "...Well, technically, bodies. I was on number two before I wound up in this hellhole."

Tex makes a vague gesture at the surrounding room. "I'm not the only one stuck in the system. There's more AIs around here."

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Since when did AI receive bodies? As far as I am aware, they weren't assigned anything like that. They were merely used as advisers to troops and craft in all situations."

She follows the gesture with her eyes. "Is there one called Déjà aboard?" So sue her, she's a little emotionally attached to the AI that basically raised her.

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Since Church and I? It's not like I was ever told about it. ...and I'm nota hundred percent sure Church is one, but seeing how he was a 'ghost', too..." She shakes her head, grumbling, "He'd still probably think he was a ghost even if somebody did tell him."

Tex shrugs, looking back to Kelly. "Not that I know of. You were assigned an AI?"

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
A pause. "I see. So you and this Church were AIs who were unaware of their own status as AIs? Do I have that correct?"

She shakes her head. No, she just wanted her mama AI most familiar AI to tell her some stuff. "No. But I worked with her a long time. I thought it would be useful to have her here."

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Tex gives a short nod. "Hell, I was assigned my own AI! O'Malley. ...Omega originally, but O'Malley's what the bastard answers to."

"She might show up eventually. Only AIs that I care about showing up are Church and O'Malley."

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
She takes a moment to run through what she knows about AI in her head. "So, by the way you talk about it, I assume your AI went rampant?"

"Perhaps. Friends of yours are they?"

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Nah. He's just a murderous prick. They gave us AIs to try and improve us-faster, stronger...meaner...."

She pauses to stare at Kelly. "Not exactly? Church is my ex-boyfriend. And O'Malley...well, now that Tucker's alien kid's probably blown up, I think I'm going to go back to trying to kill him."

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't see the point in trying to improve an already augmented SPARTAN. Especially with a murderous AI. We're quite capable of taking care of that sort of business by ourselves."

Kelly sort of shrugs. "Ex-Boyfriend, huh? Your AI is no longer in your possession?" Let's just ignore that bit about Tuecker's alien kid, yeah?

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
"This was Project Freelancer. It worked...for awhile."

Tex nods at the questions. "O'Malley jumped ship right before I went to attack the Reds." She pauses. "Long story. Long, stupid story."

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Project Freelancer? I haven't heard anything about that. What was it's objective?"

Kelly really has no idea what you are talking about, Tex. "Reds?" That's really all she can think of to say.

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"To see how well the AI thing worked-and to win the war."

Tex sighs-if her hologram could do an eyeroll, that's what she'd be doing. "The Reds," she grumbles, obviously not recalling a fond memory. "I got hired to replace a dead guy-who turned out to be Church-in this box canyon in the middle of nowhere. All that was there? The Reds and the Blues, fighting over their damn flags. ...when they bothered to do anything, anyway."

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
"How well did it work? Doesn't seem like it went too well judging by what you told me."

Holograms can't do eyerolls? Déjà always pulled them off so well. "Reds and Blues? This makes no sense to me." There, she went and said it. Happy now, Tex?

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, once people started going crazy things went downhill. They started removing AIs, and some of them didn't like the idea very much. It's another long story." Tex has a lot of those.

And her helmet, alas, gets in the way of having an visible eyes. "Don't expect it to. The whole thing was kind of...stupid."

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I guess that's generally what happens when people go crazy. Removing AIs? Who didn't like that idea very much?"

That's probably an issue. "It sounds like it."

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
"The AIs-and some of the agents." York would've killed anybody who made at attempt at removing Delta, she was pretty sure of that.

"Trust me. It was really, really stupid."

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
She nods. "I can see how that would put a kink in any plans there were for the program." Kelly would probably have done the same if she'd had an AI like John did.

"I'll take your word for it." Crazy AIs indeed.

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. Wouldn't be surprised if they were trying another version of it, though."

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Knowing the UNSC, neither would I."

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah." Tex pauses, then offers, "Tex. Who're you?"

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
She would hold out a hand, but seeing as how she's a hologram. "SPARTAN-087. Or Kelly if you like."

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
"I think I'm gonna go with Kelly." She pauses again. "Kinda weird hearing people get called by their first names again."

[identity profile] unsc-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Last name Preston. No one uses that these days." She shrugs. "I don't much care either way."
