Meet N' Greet

Part of the crew might be gone, but life on the ship goes on. In fact, new people have woken up and, eventually, they've been spat out into the mess hall.

Maybe it's better to introduce them to some of the worst aspects of ship life first, right?

Anyway, the word is out that there's new people, and someone should probably go say hello. Before the n00bs mistake the glop for crew.

Don't worry, Ronon. No one really 'gets' River. But she does sense someone watching her, perhaps a little too acutely to be entirely normal, and her eyes seek out Ronon's own through the crowd. She stops walking once she spots him, cocking her head to the side just so and raising an eyebrow as if to say, "What?"

[identity profile] runnerwithagun.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
River doing that caught even more of his attention. In response to her questioning eyes he narrows his eyebrows and continues studying her actions. What are you? would be the question going through his mind and, most likely, readable from his expression.

There are a thousand other thoughts flying around the room, but it's him she's focused on, so it's his she hears clearly. She shrugs in response. She was a girl once. In many respects she still is, but she's more than that too, and there are still blown fuses and corrupted files in her head that make the picture even less clear. Reader, witch, little girl, albatross... She likes some definitions better than others, but it's anyone's guess.

[identity profile] runnerwithagun.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
She knew what he was thinking and she even responded to him. Then he saw her mind wander off again, although he had a nagging feeling that she was still focused on him as he was on her. She's definitely more than she lets on.

But there was something to that thought, something else that help fit the picture. Ronon was trying to put his finger on it... There. She doesn't know what's driving her.

[identity profile] reaverkiller.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Her attention snaps back to Ronon immediately. She doesn't get the impression that he's a reader, but he's perceptive, intuitive.

'People tell you things all the time, without talking. The way they move, the way they aren't talking.'

'You're very intuitive.'

River cuts the memory off immediately. She glances around her briefly, just to make sure the Captain or Kaylee haven't wandered into her line of sight, then she makes her way toward Ronon. He's interesting, and she wants to meet him.

[identity profile] runnerwithagun.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The girl's making her way to him but his instincts were telling him that she was no threat. What could she want?

". . ." Ronon couldn't stop himself from grinning at River. He was interested in what she had to say to him after their silent conversation from across the room.

[identity profile] reaverkiller.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
River stops two feet in front of him. She doesn't smile back, but she doesn't frown either. "Hello," she says, "I'm River." She can't tell him what she is, because she doesn't know, but she does know her own name. Maybe that's enough, for now.

[identity profile] runnerwithagun.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Specialist Ronon Dex."

He looked at River for a moment before asking "Are you lookin' for someone?"

[identity profile] reaverkiller.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
"My Captain and Kaylee." She says it as if he should know who they are, but she doesn't really expect him to. It would be nice if he's seen them, though. And there's another curiosity... "Specialist in what?"

[identity profile] runnerwithagun.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know them," he replies honestly. "I just got here."

This girl was a lot like a child but it takes a certain maturity to understand what's being said when there are no words spoken at all. She looked a lot younger than him too. What could she have gone through to get such maturity?

"It was my military rank on Sateda." Ronon figured she wouldn't know of his home and the fact that it was now a devestated planet with thanks to the Wraith.

[identity profile] reaverkiller.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
She's a bit let down by his response, but it was a long shot anyway.

"Sateda..." She isn't familiar with the planet, but she picks up immediately on the feelings Ronon associates with it, gets a brief glimpse of something that has no context in her 'verse, and it makes her shiver. "Something awful happened."

[identity profile] runnerwithagun.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah...," River's ability to read people was something and there was no denying that Ronon was impressed. "It was destroyed in an attack from the Wraith."

There was a lot left unsaid with that particular sentence. For Ronon, words couldn't express just how he felt everytime he spoke of Sateda's destruction. In fact, if he let it get to him, he could feel the pain of losing his home just like it happened yesterday. Instead he takes those feelings and uses it to fuel his vendetta against the Wraith.

Despite all that, the biggest thing left unsaid was what the Wraith had done to him and put him through for seven years. That war was the beginning and the end.

[identity profile] reaverkiller.livejournal.com 2009-06-06 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Wraith..." She tastes the word, testing it out. She doesn't like it. "We don't have them, where I'm from. Our monsters are different. But loss is the same. I'm sorry." And she does sound genuinely sympathetic, to a degree only possible from someone who shares the same pain...or can feel someone else's. She knows his anger and his grief as if it's her own, and the child in her wants to put her arms around him and give comfort. But the woman in her is aware that it's probably inappropriate at her age, at their current level of familiarity.

[identity profile] runnerwithagun.livejournal.com 2009-06-06 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
Ronon shakes his head as if to say it's alright, don't worry about it. Then he grins at her. He appreciates the honest sympathy though he wasn't really asking for any.

"What was your place like?"

[identity profile] reaverkiller.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Serenity," she replies immediately, a smile gracing her face. She probably intends word to be taken at its face value as well as the name of the ship. "A ship in the black. I used to live on Osiris, but not anymore. Osiris is still there, but the gleaming safe towers are infested with secret agendas. They seek me."

[identity profile] runnerwithagun.livejournal.com 2009-06-08 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Serenity is the name of a ship?" Ronon was a little unsure as to what she meant but she looked happy at the mention of Serenity. "Your home?" He's almost put two and two together.

[identity profile] reaverkiller.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes. She's a very nice ship." And though River was far from her, she knew the Captain and Kaylee were here somewhere, and that was as much home as she needed for now.

[identity profile] runnerwithagun.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
"You're on the run from something." His tone is an understanding one, once having been on the run himself. "At least your friends are here. You don't have to run alone."

[identity profile] reaverkiller.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
She doesn't deny it. "Here somewhere," she sighs, a little exasperated. "Haven't found them yet, but Stacey says they're here." She observes him another moment before speaking again. "Are your friends here?"

[identity profile] runnerwithagun.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
He shakes his head. "I think no one that I know is here. I haven't asked anyone. I've been looking for familiar faces and so far can't see any."
