Meet N' Greet

Part of the crew might be gone, but life on the ship goes on. In fact, new people have woken up and, eventually, they've been spat out into the mess hall.

Maybe it's better to introduce them to some of the worst aspects of ship life first, right?

Anyway, the word is out that there's new people, and someone should probably go say hello. Before the n00bs mistake the glop for crew.

Duncan is mostly quiet, as is natural for him around strangers. Group situations make him edgy anyway, because he never knows when another Immortal might show up. So far, so good here though. He's glad the lockers had his katana and long coat-the wierd suit doesn't have a place to put his sword.

What's really wierd is all the different...things...he sees moving around here other than humans. Blue deer-human things with scorpion tails, robot-type beings, and some that are human but are supposed to only exist on television.

River is human, but as she moves to pass by Duncan, she stops dead, suddenly aware that he is not. The aliens had caught her notice of course, but they were somehow less interesting than a person who looked like he should be human, acted like he should be human, and lived among humans, but was not really human. She whirls to look at him, stares for a long moment and then proclaims, "You're really old."

Duncan initially wasn't sure how to react. But he didn't think she was making a comment on his appearance. There were an increasing number of things on this ship that weren't as they seemed, and he was learning not to take people at face value.

"How do you know?" he asks. He knows she isn't immortal, there's no buzz, but he's intrigued by the remark.

She realizes, in hindsight, that was probably slightly less than tactful to blurt out. She never would have done it normally, out of caution if nothing else, but this ship has assaulted her senses with so many new kinds of thoughts and sensations that she's bursting with them. Containing them further is an improbability, and she doesn't want to overflow.

Duncan gets a small, sheepish smile as apology and a slow shake of the head. "Just know," she says, unable to gather enough coherency at the moment to properly articulate who and what she is when she doesn't really fully understand herself. "Can tell. Generation after generation of the same person being different people, but there's a goal. The swords carry the fate and the lightning carries the soul." She can't explain him coherently either. Exact terms escape her, only picking up the overall concept of what Duncan is, not the varied specifics. She can't do that when he's not thinking about them.

There's one other concept rattling around his head, louder than the rest, weightier with more purpose. There can be only one. But she doesn't say it.

Well, this one looked normal enough, anyway. Not that Jim had anything against the aliens - after spending so much time around Tassadar and Zeratul, he'd grown used to the nonhuman presence - but this fellow looked approachable.

He also had a trenchcoat, which was more than the rest of them had been given. Maybe there was a way to get out of this nasty suit he was wearing and into something a bit more familiar. "Where'd you grab the coat? Doesn't strike me as the sort of place to find a tailor."

"I got it long before I woke up on here." Duncan replied. "I don't know how it got here though, it was in the locker with my other item. I wish I did know how it got here though, it might help with how I got here."

"Lockers, huh? And where might a fella find these lockers?" Hell, if they had the man's coat, they might have his vest, his gun - anything but this damn plantsuit.
