A Less Than Dramatic Return

Way up on Stacy's top level, the Hub opened and spat out four crew members. They hadn't been gone for very long, only a few shipboard "days" or so, but long enough for the crew members in question to be irritated.

"Who wants to hit the Sensoriums?" Paco asked, scrubbing his normal hand over his face. "I wasn't expecting to actually get cake, but I've got a massive craving for it now."

"[I will pass on that, thank you all the same,]" Jonas said, rising smoothly to his feet. He looked over at Jeka and Ax, who were in the process of untangling themselves from their pile on the floor. "[I believe that you two are both members of Security, would one of you care to escort me back to the Brig? I have no intention of going anywhere besides that, but I probably should not be walking around unescorted.]"

Ax and Jeka exchanged looks. < I'll take him down to the Brig if you report our return to the Head of Security, > Ax said. Jeka nodded. "Done."

"...So, no one else wants cake," Paco said incredulously. "Okay, I know two of you are aliens and one of you is, uh, an artificial person--"

"Synthetic," Jonas and Jeka corrected in unison.

"--Synthetic person then, but dudes. Cake!"

"My species is primarily carnivorous."

"[I need to go back to the Brig.]"

< He has requested an escort. >

Paco shrugged and turned to head for the Sensoriums. "More for me then!"

[[OOC: Say which of these four you'd like to thread with in the subject line. Jonas is going straight to the Brig if you want to thread with him, but the others can be anywhere you'd like.]]

"Jeka!"

Sasami's eyes hadn't deceived her noticing the snake-girl. A smile crossed her face as she ran up to her, stopping short of giving her a hug.

"Where did you go off to? Did GLaDOS get you again?" she asked, a little worried.

Well, luckily for Paco, as he was entering the sensoriums, Miku was leaving hers.

"Oh! Pakkun! I haven't seen you in a little while." She smiled, but it was sort of weak. "I take it you were running mazes?"

"Hello Sasami," Jeka said, giving the blue-haired girl a smile. It was nice to see a friendly face after all the mess and tests. "Yes, GLaDOS got me again, but apparently my soul is still where it ought to be. Have I missed anything important?"

"Got it in one," Paco said with a slightly-forced grin of his own. "I have never craved cake so much in my life. Care to grant me the pleasure of your company?"

"Dude, Paco!" Danny said, happy to see his friend "What happened, you get GLaDOSed?"

She paused for a second, considering. Well, Steve probably didn't need her right now (and anyway, she was still a little, little annoyed). "Yes," Miku nodded once. "Of course. I can catch you up on some of the things you missed... ah, I hope I remembered enough." Miku made a face.

"Hey Danny!" Paco called back. "Yeah, I did. Guess I've been too mopey or something lately. You wouldn't believe how much I want cake right now. 'sup dude?"

"Haven't ended up one of her "guests" yet, so I probably wouldn't believe it. Not much really, unless you count Dani getting involved in Yeerk rights." Danny replied.

"Well... the Council decided for everyone to have physicals and mental evaluations. Not everyone's happy about it, though." she said. Typical, but can't please anyone. "Beyond that, it's been pretty quiet... but I don't like that. Not at all."

"Awesome," Paco said, holding the door open for her like a gentleman ought to. "I'm sure you'll remember anything that's really important."

"Thank you," Miku laughed a little and stepped inside the empty sensorium. "Well, where should I begin? Recently, there are people who disagree about the mandatory physicals and psychiatric screenings. But is that really all that different from their usual bickering?"

"Count yourself lucky, jumping through her hoops is no fun at all," Paco said, making a face. That face froze at the mention of Yeerks, but he took a deep breath and tried to make himself relax.

"Am I going to regret asking?" he asked when he was sure he could keep his voice level.

"Relax." Danny said "There's only two, and apparently the hosts and Yeerks agreed on some kind of temporary timeshare until Engineering or Science can come up with a solution that'll remove their need for the whole possession thing."

"Physicals and mental evaluations make sense to me," Jeka said, a trifle reluctantly. Something to add to her to-do list for one, and she while she knew that she could use a talk with someone who knew what they were doing, it wasn't exactly something she was looking forward to. But if she had to do it, it was probably best to get it over with.

She cocked her head to the side, hairless brow furrowing. "You think something bad is going to happen soon?"

"Really? I don't think so. I don't want it to." Sasami said. "We've been through a lot lately. It feels like we never get a break."

She lets out a soft sigh and looks at Jeka. "I just hope it's me being antsy."

As they entered, the Sensorium transformed itself into a bakery-cafe. A very cake-intensive bakery-cafe, with a conveyor belt with plates of cake riding around on it like a merry-go-round for delicious inanimate objects. Paco snagged a piece of yellow cake with chocolate frosting. And sprinkles, because.

He flopped gracelessly down at a table, unwrapping the fork from its paper napkin cover. He did have some table manners, after all.

"I guess it's not," he said, taking a bite of cake. Mm! Yes! The craving-beast is pleased! "Can't make everyone happy without druggin' 'em to the gills or melting down their brains with psychic waves, and I don't think Command would stoop to that."

"Two besides Schmuz and the one in that Tom kid, or still just those two?" Paco asked. He was less than happy about any Yeerks being on board, but if it was still just the two he knew about...well, he'd absented himself from the trial and that whole mess as much as possible for a reason. He repressed a shudder and crammed the little voice in his head that was all that remained of the Sub-Visser back down into its dark little hole in his mind. "They got any plans yet for getting them out, or is it still hypothetical?"

"Still just them. Allen was working on something, but he's either running mazes or got repodded."

"No, I don't think they would either. The Captain is a good person, even if he is rather gruff." Miku selected a rather done up cake, with three chocolate layers with whipped cream and fruit inside, topped off with three dense cream peaks and berries. She steeled herself for the calories, and unfolded her napkin and fork.

Oh, forks, you awkward, graceless things. "In more personal news, Steve hasn't been so well lately, but he'll be better soon." Or at least, that's what she hoped. "And I've started gathering up the other Japanese on the ship to clean the Meiji Shrine." She took a forkful of mostly cream and berries and ate it.

"That we don't seem to get a break is why they're important," Jeka said with a shrug. "It's not something I'm looking forward to either, and I'm not going to pretend that the psychologist will be able to catch everything, but they might be able to catch and fix some things before they become problems."

Like that boy Jonas, who had requested an escort down to the Brig. If they'd known he might break so hard when Cassie Lang died, someone might have been able to stop him before he'd killed Shiva and Kawalsky, and he might not still feel so shattered now.

She sighs and pats Sasami's shoulder. "We can only hope. But keep your eyes open regardless. The unconscious mind is more clever than most sentients think it is."

"I hope so. A lot of people seemed worried about actually going. That one boy, Hiccup, seemed very serious about not wanting to participate." Sasami said. "But... it's for the best, right? So we don't have these incidents again."

Sasami nodded and smiled as Jeka patted her shoulder. "Okay, then. I will." She looked away a bit before looking at her again. "Would it be okay if we could spend some time together? A... few of my friends have disappeared and I'm... kinda lonely."

Oh, the way Big Zero's face lit up upon spotting the synthezoid. "I was wondering if you were ever gonna show up."

(ooc: Because I could see Kate wanting to check up on both of them)

"Man, souls come loose at the most inconvenient times, don't they?" Paco said, shaking his head. "Anything else new and/or interesting happen?"

Because really, the less he has to think about Yeerks, the better.

"Yeah, the Captain's pretty cool," Paco agreed. Which reminded him that he still needed to drag Master Chief and Leon to some fun events. He was sure he could recruit Sherry for that...

He snickered a bit over Miku's choice in 'cake'; he was pretty sure that it was closer to frosting than anything else, but hey, his cake has sprinkles.

"Steve got sick?" he asked worriedly, pausing another bite of cake partway to his mouth. Well, that wasn't even remotely good. "Glad to hear he's getting better. I'll hunt him down to say 'hi' later. Cool about the Shrine. I don't actually know much about the Meiji Shrine--" as evidenced by how he'd mangled the pronunciation a little, "--but that sounds cool. If you need more help, I'd be happy to pitch in a little."
