We're Not In Kansas Anymore...

They might have been trying to get to the City, or another level, or anywhere else in the explored parts of Stacy. But when some crewmembers stepped into the transport tubes, they were going to find that where they ended up was not where they were trying to go.

The first sign that something was wrong was the strange electric jolt they get just after stepping into the tubes. The second sign was the unusually long time it took for them to get to their destination. And the third and final sign was the fact that when they arrived, it was in a place they would have never seen before.

To all appearances, it looked like a smaller replica of the crew quarters. If they ventured out a little further, they would find smaller versions of the mess hall, sleeping halls, and bathrooms as well. But there was one important difference.

They were completely and utterly empty.

And with any attempt to go back into the transport tubes failing, they appeared to be stuck here. What were they going to do?

[ooc: ICly this post happens over the course of a day, so not everyone arrives at the same time. If you tag into the post later, you can just assume that your character arrived later in the day. Also, your characters will not find that their omnicomms and communication rings don't work!

If you have a question about anything, you can ask on this ooc post.

Oh, and for this post threadjacking is welcome :P]

< I'd say so. I've never seen this part of the ship before. > He paused a moment.

< Uh, do you mind? > He flutters upwards and awkwardly lands on Roger's shoulder, perching there after scrabbling for grip on the power armor's metallic surface.

< Safer than the ground, I think. I'm Tobias. >

[OOC: If that's not okay, let me know. Assuming that he's in his armor.]

[OOC: Yeah, he is. It's all cool.]

"Go ahead," says Roger, and holds still while the hawk gets his balance. "My name's Roger Maxson. I'd wondered if I'd taken a wrong turn somewhere, but this... this is way past wrong turn."

< Nice to meet you, Mister Maxson. > He fluffs a wing and peers around at their surroundings.

< I knew I shoulda taken that left turn at Albuquerque, > was the dry reply to his comment on taking a wrong turn. < I wonder if anyone else is down here with us? I mean if we got routed down here, there must be others. >

"You've still got an Albuquerque?" says Roger. Then: "Sorry. Long story... but you're probably right. Something must've gotten mixed up in the ship's routing systems. We should see who else we can round up."

< Of course we have an Albquerque. Why, do you not--you know what, I won't ask right now. > Tobias cocks his head.

< Let's take a look. When did ou come aboard, by the way? You don't resemble the other heavily armored space marines we have around here. >

"I'll tell you later," Roger agrees. As he starts moving down the corridor, one hand almost-but-not-quite touching the left wall to keep him on track, he says, "Just got out of the slime pods a little while ago. I'm not a space marine. This was United States Government-issue armor, back when I was in the Army. It was the year 2097 before I wound up here. How about you?"

Tobias adjusted himself as he rode along on Roger's shoulder, bobbing slightly up and down as they moved together.

< 2097? You're like. . .about 100 years in the future from me, then. Nice to see they still have expensive toys for the military. >

"They used to have," Roger corrected absently. "Before the War. Scootch over a bit, would you?"

He was coming up to a crossed pair of corridors and he needed to reach over his shoulder for the laser rifle he carried. God only knew what might be lurking down here.

"Thanks."

< There was a war? > He adroitly moved to the side to facilitate the drawing of the weapon.

< Man, no idea what's down here. I mean, they have zombies and other crazy stuff all over the place. . . Could be nasty. And no problem. At least one of us has something besides talons. > So did Tobias, but. . he preferred to keep that private.

"Twenty years ago," Roger answered. "United States versus Red China. Nobody left to go to war now, unless you count little bush-league bands of raiders."

He nudged a button inside his helmet with his chin, switching on the light affixed to the side of his helmet opposite Tobias. "Yep. One AER9 laser rifle, one AEP7 laser pistol, and one super sledge for those special occasions where you just have to hit whatever it is until it stops moving," he said, sweeping the light back and forth to peer into some of the shadows. "I'd be happier with a plasma caster, but it's what I had when I got here, so I'm not going to complain."
