Please Show Me How to Get it Right [Closed]

That... thing was back in her room again. Tonight, she could make out the semi-transparent twist of a spirit standing over her bed. Her guts churning, her skin clammy, she pretended she didn't see it and slid out of bed. It was hard to pretend when she could so pointedly feel it. Miku pulled on her robe and cinched the belt almost too tightly, her hands trembled so badly.

Leaving it again in the room, Miku padded to the next safest place she could think of - Steve's room and tapped very lightly on the door. "Steve? Are you awake?" Maybe, possibly... well, she hoped. Miku chewed on her lower lip and toyed with her new necklace.

"Uh... Huh?"

A pause.

"Yeah!" And then the door slid open and there was Steve, pulling on a big T-shirt and trying to look like he had not just been sleeping. And then trying to look like he didn't notice his girlfriend standing there basically in her underwear.

Composed self. "Are you okay? What's wrong?"

Miku's eyebrows drew together; he really had been sleeping. His hair looked mussed and his face still had that soft, sleepy look to it. "There was just something weird in my room again. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have woken you up." It was just one dead person, after all. What could one really do to her?

Well, wait. Don't answer that.

"No, no, it's fine!" Steve held the door open for her and motioned for her to come in. "Come on, it's not a big deal. You can sleep in here if you want." He did have an extra bed after all.

"It's better to get a good night's sleep than to be up all night with something creepy."

Miku stepped inside and shifted on her feet shyly. It was highly unusual for her to be here in the middle of the night, and even more in her nightgown. Then again he hadn't appeared to have noticed, so maybe it was all for the better. She smiled at him. "Thank you."

It was like a weight had been lifted from her shoulders with his OK. "I wish I knew what it wanted, instead of it just... standing there." She shuddered and rubbed her arms.

Steve looked sympathetic. He had never seen a ghost (thank god), but if there was one just standing there staring at him he knew he'd be panicking without a doubt.

"Can you talk to them?" he asked. He sank down on his bed and motioned for her to join him. Scandalous. But he was really just thinking she probably needed some comfort after the scare.

"Sort of. It's more one-sided. They talk to me, or point, and then..." She was dumb enough to follow them. Miku shrugged as she sank down beside Steve. "I try to find what they're looking for." She looked up, "I don't always listen to them, just the ones that are insistent."

And had her trapped in a room otherwise.

"That's how it works in every ghost movie I've ever seen," Steve said knowingly. He liked to think he had a pretty good knowledge of ghost movies.

It took him a few seconds to work up the courage to put his arm around her. "You're freezing cold," he teased. "I always thought 'spine-chilling' was just an expression."

Miku smiled weakly and rested her cheek on his shoulder, "You're braver than I am. I don't even like those." Her life was enough of a horror movie as far as Miku was concerned. "And the dead like the... I don't know how to describe it. They like the fact that we're alive, because it's warm. I don't know why they like me; I'm never warm," she managed to joke.

Steve was, though, and she appreciated the warmth that sunk into her clammy skin.

"I guess between the two of us it kind of evens out, huh." The only bedding on Steve's bed was one small blanket that looked like it had been shoved off to the side. He spent a lot of time figuring out how to stay cool at night.

"They probably like you because you're nice, and a good listening."

"It must," she smiled a little more warmly. "But I don't think they like me for my listening skills." Something told her it was another thing that attracted the dead to her, not that she could figure out what.

She patted his hand, "Anyway, enough about ghosts for now. I don't want to attract anym--any to you."

"Okay," he said. "Don't worry, no ghosts in here. I made sure to check."

He took the opportunity to grasp her hand and stifled a little yawn. "Nice to see you, even if it's late."

"You see me all the time," Miku pointed out and scooted a little closer.

"Well, yeah..." He smiled a little awkwardly. "But... still."

Brilliant, Steve. Brilliant.

"I guess I'm still a little sleepy."

Miku reached up and pushed his hair from his eyes, "Then go to sleep. I think I might be awake a little longer, and your rest is important."

His face turned slowly tomato-colored as she pushed his hair out of the way. "Not if you're scared," he insisted. "What else is a boyfriend for?"

"Opening jars? Killing bugs and evil nightmare things?" She teased. She dropped her hand on his shoulder, lightly.

He grinned and pulled her a little closer. "And keeping girlfriends warm."

Tomorrow, Steve would look back on this conversation and hate himself for being a goofy sap.

"Oh, that, too." Miku grinned back and felt her face heat up. Sheesh, was she so easily flattered by silly (if goofy) phrases? Well, considering the way her heart seemed to be swelling and her face warming, the answer to that was probably "yes."

She glanced down and hid her face in his shoulder. Ladies and gentlemen, Miku Hinasaki: Ostrich.

"There, now you're warmer," he teased her. Like he was anyone to talk about blushing, though.

Careful not to knock either of their heads into the wall, he slowly flopped down on the bed behind them, staring up at the ceiling. Miku fit snugly into one arm, and it helped make him forget about those annoying, itchy bandages.

Miku shushed him and picked at a wrinkle in his t-shirt. She tucked her legs up so they were on the bed. She finally lifted her head and tried to see if he were awake, but bumped his nose with hers.

"Ow." He grinned, jokingly and reached up to rub it. "Easy, there."

"Sorry, sorry," Miku apologized, whispering. She didn't know why she needed to whisper. That was... odd. "You were so quiet, I thought you might've fallen asleep."

"Nah. Just comfortable," he replied. He was whispering too, for... whatever reason. "It's nice."

Miku made a little noise in agreement and put her head back down on his shoulder. She supposed it was her nerves that wanted her to keep talking, despite the fact the both of them needed to be sleeping.

The very pleasant swell in her chest subsided as she got used to lying there. "I'll move in a few minutes, so you can sleep a bit better." After all, even if she were small, it was still a little bed, and they were a funny angle on it. She was sure that it was more uncomfortable for him than it was for her.

"Here, we can just..." Steve sat up halfway, careful not to jostle her, and at least turned so that they were facing the right direction on the bed. He dragged Miku up close to him again, then gave a little sigh and smiled.

"That's better."
