Well, Damn [Closed]

So, the votes were counted, and Leon had won. So what was supposed to be a temporary job just turned into a full-time gig.

Okay. Deep breath. Get to work.

But first, he was going to have to talk to Claire and Sherry. Both of whom, he figured, would be looking for him, and both of them would find him in his quarters at the moment.

Well, her father hadn't been on the Observation Deck with the others, so Sherry had headed to the next logical place - home. Or rather, the pair of rooms that one parent or another managed to occupy. She knocked on the door, "Dad? Are you in there?"

Claire had hovered on the Obs Deck just long enough to see the results, before disappearing to find Leon. She was a little upset, but on the other hand, she'd kind of expected this outcome.

She came up right behind Sherry, reaching out to pat her daughter's shoulder silently as she came up to the door as well. It was funny how sometimes their little family all seemed to be on the same wavelength.

Yep, it was only a matter of time.

"Yeah," he answered, and got up to open the door. Only to find both Sherry and Claire.

"Hey, you two." he stepped aside to let them in.

There was a silver lining to it, somewhere, or so Sherry hoped. She stepped inside and hovered around the other bed before sitting down. "Congratulations, Daddy."

While she felt a little guilty for voting for her father (but only a little), he was the best person for the job.

"Hi," she greeted quietly, following Sherry into the room but pausing to give Leon a kiss. She gave him a small smile as she pulled away, before going to sit down next to Sherry.

"So, head honcho, huh?"

"Yeah," he said, taking a seat opposite the two of them.

"I know you're not thrilled about it," he told Claire, smiling a little as he said it. He then looked at Sherry. "But what about you? And be honest."

Sherry looked down at her lap and folded her hands, "I voted for you, Dad." She glanced up at Claire quickly, "Sorry, Mom." Her attention went back to her lap, "You're not crazy like the other people, well, Mr. Petrelli's alright, I guess, but I thought you'd do better."

She twiddled her thumbs for a second, and finally looked up at Leon, "I know that you'll be working a lot, but... that's okay." Not prime or optimal, but she could get used to that sort of long parental absence again. Just like riding a bike.

She felt moderately guilty being against Leon winning. It had nothing to do with whether or not she thought he was the right man for the job, honestly. She smiled down at Sherry when the little girl apologized, gently stroking her hand over the little girl's hair.

"You've gotta do what you've gotta do," she said after a moment, looking back up at Leon. "And the people on the ship obviously think you're the best one for the job."

Only time will tell if Leon really was the right person for the job. But he appreciated Sherry's vote of confidence.

"I love you both," he stated, "and this job isn't more important than either one of you." Not that he didn't think they knew that, but he wanted to say so. Out loud.

"Besides, I'll need you two to keep me sane, and keep from working myself to death while I run this madhouse." Because oh my lord was this crew crazy.

He wasn't lying, either. Just glancing at her omnicom sometimes made Sherry want to throw the device across the room. She leaned her head on her mother's shoulder, "I think we can do that."

Actually she didn't doubt that her mother could do that blindfolded, but at least she would be able to help from time to time. Even if it meant pulling on his arm and whining. "I love you, too."

Claire smirked a little, leaning her head to the side and raising her eyebrows.

"That pretty much goes without saying. You're a workaholic even when you don't like the job." Which was moderately frustrating to her, but again, he wouldn't really be who he was if he wasn't that way.

"It's still a job that needs doing," and far be it for him to half-ass it. Especially with lives in the balance.

But, beyond that, it was still his job. "I'm the Captain now."

Crazy crew aside, it was kinda cool to say that.

"Do you get a hat?" It came out quickly, and Sherry clapped a hand over her mouth to hide the wide smile that threatened to take over her face (and hurt her cheeks). It seemed like the least the very questionably sane crew of the ship could do was get their Captain a hat.

Sherry cleared her throat lightly and glanced at one of the random decorations her mother had placed in the room.

She couldn't suppress the snort at Sherry's remark, and only just restrained herself from bursting out laughing. She put a hand up to her mouth and bit down on her index finger, not that that made the smile disappear.

"Yeah, Leon. D'you get a hat?"

He couldn't help the smile and dropped his head, quietly laughing to himself a little.

"No. No, sweetheart. I don't get a hat. Maybe I should ask for one... and a sword."

"You don't need a sword, Daddy. That would be overkill." Why, yes, she does remember how many ridiculous weapons her parents gleefully use. But the hat, at least that'd separate him from other people. Still, she seemed to have successfully broken the heavy air that had covered their conversation.

Thank goodness for small favors, anyway. "You aren't allowed to work on my birthday, though. You can't." It was still some time away, but it was getting closer and closer with every passing day. Besides, she wasn't perfect; sharing her father with the rest of the crew was taxing. If she could at least cut out one little day, and hope they didn't manage to be attacked by fifty-foot long killer space alligators or something, then that would be enough for her.

Claire's smile softened and she wrapped her arm around Sherry, rubbing her hand up and down the little girl's arm.

"No working on birthdays. Think you can manage that, Captain?" She looked across at Leon, arching her eyebrows slightly.

"I can manage that," he agreed. "I wouldn't miss it for the world."

"Good." Woe unto you if you did, Leon. Sherry looked up at Claire, "Is that all? Or," she turned her attention back to her father, "is there something else?"

No, banning her from Vega doesn't count.

Claire frowned a little thoughtfully, trying to think if there was anything further that needed discussing here. There were still a few things she should probably mention, but that could wait until Sherry wasn't around.

"I think we covered the important stuff?"

"Yeah, I think we got all of the big stuff. And we missed anything, it's not like I'll be hard to find," he shrugged.

"Okay, I... should probably go," cheer wildly to Vega about how amazing her father was, even if he Highly Disapproved of the boy, "take Vega his class notes."

And not forget the pastry that seemed to be helping to motivate his studying. "And then do my homework." Or something.

She smirked a little, gently ruffling up Sherry's hair. "Don't get into too much trouble, all right?" Because even if Sherry did end up doing her homework, trouble also still somehow seemed to make its way into being an option. Obviously being a Redfield-Kennedy was having permanent effects.

Leon was starting to think that Sherry enjoyed mentioning the name of that boy around him, just to watch that one vein on his neck throb.

Though, now that he's Captain, he could make it legal to chuck that boy out of an airlock, right? He'd have to look that up.

"Come, give me a hug, sweetheart." Before she went scampering off to cause mischief.

Cause mischief? This innocent, blue-eyed girl? Neeever.

And yes, the vein thing was kind of funny. Poor Vega, he just didn't even know.

"I got in trouble the other day," Sherry said in the idle way that she hoped would sound like she was kidding, thinking of the creature in the Labyrinth. "I think I'll be fine." She slipped away from Claire and smoothed out her hair with one hand, before hugging Leon.
