Itadakimasu~! [OPEN PARTY]

If the Mess Hall normally smelled like anything, it was the bland, flavorless glop that the crew was accustomed to eating. But if you were to pass by the room today, you might notice a different smell. A good smell - the smell of actual food.

Nanoha Takamachi and Miku Hinasaki have been hard at work cooking up a feast of authentic homemade Japanese cuisine, and the entire ship is invited. Have at it!

(ooc: Thread amongst yourselves; Nanoha and Miku will be tagging around and making sure everyone's having a good time, but it's a party!

There's pretty much every type of Japanese cuisine here that they thought non-Japanese would enjoy/be familiar with: Hand-rolled sushi, some gyoza potstickers, udon bowls, agedashi tofu, and a variety of other dishes. If you're familiar with it, they probably made some.)

Dean nearly dropped his food at the sight, and wouldn't that have been a damn crying shame to waste something this good? what the hell was it? And it could talk which pointed to crew member. Freaking weird ass giant crew member.

"That? It's raw fish dude..."

Another bite, another savory mouthful of flavor, and when Aeneas glanced up he found the familiar, dumbfounded expression on the face of this male as he did on most humans that first encountered him. Thus he remained as calm and cordial as possible, giving him a pleasant curve of the brow as a smile.

“Is it?” Aeneas trilled, nostrils flared to gather the faint scent of this meat, “Pardon my ignorance, but—what are ’fish’?”

This writer apologizes ahead of time, Dean.

It was partly that, and the fact that usually strange creatures like this were a thing to be hunted. So forgive Dean if he was a bit tense against a possible threat. Then again, this thing hasn't attacked people yet, just the buffet line like everybody else.

He did eye him a little, "They don't have animals that breathe in water where you come from? Because that's what they are. Swim around, and uh got gills."

Dammit why is he being asked for the science lecture, this was more Sam's bag? He could probably go on and on about the species and other stupid facts.

Ah, so he was suspicious of him—that was new, even if it was something that Aeneas had expected to happen as soon as he’d arrived here. In a way this previously held expectation helped him cope with Dean’s incredulous, apprehensive gaze, not only providing the alien with a new insight into the vast spectrum of human mindsets, but also giving him something to work for. Convincing Dean that, yes, he was one of the less morally ambiguous members upon this vessel, became Aeneas’s driving motivation for this encounter. That was why he’d come to this event in the first place, right? To make a good impression? To prove that he was still sociable?

Unfortunately this human was slightly less…astute than the ones Aeneas usually found himself conversing with, and thus he was left rather confused and a little skeptical himself.

“Erm…” the creature gave a thoughtful blink and, in nervous amusement, ruffled his feathers, “…Well, yes, it did—I assume. That would…essentially include my species.”

Because, yes, those feathers are actually casings for external gills, therefore he did indeed breathe underwater; this would also imply that Aeneas was no stranger to ‘swimming around’, as it were. And though the thought of humans hunting his species for this delicacy briefly crossed his mind, the concept was so utterly audacious that Aeneas immediately dismissed it.

So it made sense that he would want to clear things up before this conversation progressed into something less pleasant. “—I mean—what do these ‘fish’ creatures look like?”

"Uh they got flippers and fins. Scales and a tail. Bet the Media Library's got pictures of them. Sometimes people just fish for them for fun. It's relaxing."

He's done it on occasion himself. Just kicking back with a few beers and a rod in hand over a lake.

Dean then studied the creature further, "Wait, you're usually in the water. Then how come you're walking around?"

Aeneas nodded, getting a mental picture. It wasn’t very good though—for whatever reason he could only imagine Kang the reptilian tavern keeper with external gills and paddles instead of legs, which, though amusing, was probably not very close to the real thing. Hunting such a creature (as Dean had described) might prove exciting, but that would be inherently dangerous and, therefore, not relaxing.

He would have to stop by the Media Library later.

The next statement proved odder still, even managing to elicit a confused cock of the head from the creature being interrogated. Aeneas fumbled about for some sort of human parallel. “…Well…You swim for entertainment sometimes, correct?”
