Free but at what cost? (Some language warning)
(After this)
Dean had got some sleep, and now he was lying out in the Impala after having some beer from the Drunken Dragon tavern. It helped a little.
Not really.
He sent a comm to Sam earlier when he was more awake saying where he was, and that it was true.
Apocalypse canceled. No more angel condoms, no more Michael, no more Lucifer. The Winchesters were free from destiny's hold.
...No more Earth.
They failed. He failed.

And Sam is absolutely not thinking about where Dean got skills for torture from. At all. "Well, yeah. Taking one alive isn't too useful if you can't get info out of it."

He added, "Not sure about the odds of getting our world back, but if we can at least take the sons of bitches down before they destroy more worlds I'll be a happy man." Plus there was the matter of if they get their world back, would that mean they'd have to go right back into the whole ugly destiny part again and the end of the world?

He didn't think they really had anything to go back to, anyway. It wasn't like there was much of anybody left for them to go back to and the end of the world really wasn't appetizing.

"Damn straight. Make up for all the screwing up, and the pointlessness of what we did before."
no subject
"It wasn't pointless," he said after a moment. "We did everything we could to make things better. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes...well, sometimes we failed. And I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure aliens are out of our jurisdiction."

Dean shakily ran a hand through his hair, and a weary expression showed on his face. He felt like his whole life had been a waste.

He sank back further in the seat as he quietly added, "Couldn't even save you from them. The you from then. You got in front of me, and..." He swallowed the last of his beer instead of finishing.

Dean glanced over at him, "That's different though. It wasn't your job to protect me." He still considered it his job to first and foremost, protect Sam at all costs.

But he didn't want to get into that again. Not now when even that seemed meaningless in the scope of events.
"Glad she was able to get you then. Before you woke up... was having a rough time, Sammy. Thought I'd end up alone after all."

Sam managed a bit of a smile. "Yeah, well, what can I say? I'm good at following my big brother around."

He batted at Dean's hand, his own smile widening. "Jerk." The way he said it, it was totally a term of endearment. "You got any more beer?"
no subject
"Bitch," he immediately answered with a grin.
"Not my fault if you drank the last of it." Actually there was one more bottle in hiding. Let's see how long before Sam stumbles across it.

The smile went straight to a grin at the well-known answer and rolled his eyes. "Nope. Your fault for not having more of it." Didn't believe for a second that it had been the last one, but hey. Dean was allowed his stash.

And since he can't deny his bro anything, Dean then fished around the back, and grabbed the last bottle to hand over.
"Here."

He put the drink back down in the back again.
Dean then wondered, "Hey Sammy? You didn't come across those books of Chuck in the media library did you?"
no subject
He shook his head at the question. "No, I haven't. Though I admit that I haven't really been looking. Even if they were, Stacy probably only has the ones that were published."
no subject
"I mean if the ladies want full frontal me, they'd only have to ask."
no subject
Again. Because living in hotels meant sometimes you got accidental eyefuls.

Dean added, "Not my fault if you forget to knock sometimes, man."
