Everybody has to eat, even super serious Spartan-II's.
The Chief's in the mess hall, sitting by himself and working his way through a ration of tasteless nutrient mush while working on something on his omnicomm. The Chief's never been one to really take refuge in the sensoriums to make food taste better, he's gotten used to it and doesn't even think about it much.
He's not unaware of what's going on around him, but he has most of the comings and goings of the room basically tuned out.
This means someone should bother him, y/n?

"Mistakes happen. This one could have been prevented, but it happened. If this is an indication of the crew's ability to adapt when things go awry, I don't know if we'll be ready to fight a war."
But her words aren't really what are important. Deep down Samus knows Chief is already aware of this fact. What speaks louder is the fact that she's saying them. She'd always been teetering on being her own lone wolf tendencies. Ever since she popped on this ship. It didn't take long for her to realize that there was no way she could tough it all on her own, but she had never really admitted it. She knew there were plenty of capable and not so capable (she knew especially about the last group), but she never admitted that she would need to work with both of those groups in order to keep everyone safe.
She's stubborn, but not stubborn enough to keep her from learning.

Mistakes were made, but there were no casualties. Thankfully. But apparently, it had been close.
What else can they do, though?

"Do you have a suggestion?"
The Chief doesn't quite believe that Samus is just telling him this for no reason.

She knows it's nothing that she can force people to do, but at least she makes an effort.

"You can lead a horse to water," he responds. But that's part of what he's working on now. They need... structure.
"You're not the only one who's been thinking about this."
