Everybody has to eat, even super serious Spartan-II's.

The Chief's in the mess hall, sitting by himself and working his way through a ration of tasteless nutrient mush while working on something on his omnicomm. The Chief's never been one to really take refuge in the sensoriums to make food taste better, he's gotten used to it and doesn't even think about it much.

He's not unaware of what's going on around him, but he has most of the comings and goings of the room basically tuned out.

This means someone should bother him, y/n?

"I could use a better familiarity with the weapon options on the ship," Aine stopped to pull the gun from its holster under her coat. It looked like an ordinary handgun from Earth, save the red gem on the bottom of the grip. "Stacy suggested I take an Intar when I was looking for a sidearm. Non-lethal but effective for me. How many of the people in question have any training at all?"

She really needed to familiarize herself with some more of the technology involved here. She definitely felt like she was a country girl in a big city right now.

Image"Given the reason we are here, anyone being useless in a war makes little sense," It would make sense if most people had some useful skill. Even if not all of them are cut out for direct combat. Course, anyone from her world would know something about combat. Just the way things were, and it was nice he wasn't talking down to her as much as others on the ship.

"My personal guns are energy weapons, powered off me. But my soul is worthless in a fight, I heal people." She didn't bother to pull out her gun to show him. She gestured to the gun she pulled out, "This is a' Energy weapon, but it appears to be based on a projectile weapon and modified. Can't kill, but for me I'm good with that so long as nobody means to kill me right now." She could get a proper lethal force weapon later on, when she's going into a fight that's sure to be them or her. Wandering around the ship she just feels better with something she can use to put someone down.

Image"I'll endeavor to be useful," Given the incident with the Blood Drinker, she could understand that her healing powers would probably be of use. Although something said this was being grossly understated. "Any pointers as to what I should be ready for?"

"If I can be of any value with combat training, let me know," she realized this was unlikely. She was too young to be taken seriously in a training situation, "Or whenever some training for the vehicles comes up. They certainly are..." Intimidating "Interesting."

Image"Understood," Communications were easier than at home. So paying attention for that announcement shouldn't be a problem.

Wait, that was a list of things that only warranted being noted as 'incidents,' "...I think I need a bigger gun."

"I'll look into that, thank you. Because of my Nature, while guns are the Form my Soul takes, I only got minimal training with larger guns," Aine tried to explain her lack of training, in something she knew pretty well.

"I was pretty good with longer guns when I picked them up, but it would be a waste of resources to deploy me with any," Aine smiled, "But since weapons here don't rely on my Soul, I could probably pick up something with a faster fire rate or longer range and be pretty good with it. And kill things that need killing with it too."

"I'm Aine," she offered, working on the 'food' again. Probably should have started with that detail.

"Everyone in my world, at age eight, join the military. We're taught to cultivate our soul into a Form we can draw out and to discover its Nature. The Nature is absolute, an aspect of you that cannot be changed. The Form is what you find most comfortable to use in combat," Aine got a lot more proper, once she realized he was a lot more important than she initially thought. She figured he was important, to be devising training, but not that important.

"In my case, I'm a White, I have healing powers. Which means there wasn't any point in training me with heavier guns. Even if I have a very strong ranged Form," She ate a little more of her food, "Since ranged weapons imitate your Nature, all my shots heal. Teaching me a deckgun or a rifle meant nothing in combat. Not a problem with the guns here, even if they use those weird bullet things."

"Basically, its more that the weapon makes it easier to use the powers," The weapons were created as a method to draw out the Soul, not the Soul honed to power the weapon. He had the right idea, just the causality reversed.

"What I know of the other Magic users on the ship, my single Nature is nothing compared to their capabilities," she didn't mind, she would find her place. If she could prove stronger than those with such advantages, her story would become more of an epic. Than if she were already the most powerful in the room. "I probably have more training than they do in other areas, outside of their specialty."

Image"Yeah, I've heard," Aine had heard about them, and she met someone who used magic on the ship. What she knew was that whatever they did, it was way beyond her. "Comparin' mine to theirs is like a butterknife to an armory. One of them takes a lot more work to be impressive with."

She had trouble wrapping her mind around the magic users here, and she used magic. At least, something like magic. In any case she knew her place wasn't really with the mages. "I know wherever I pick to be I'll probably be over my head. But I think a place with soldiers will suit me better, unless orders say I'll be better with the Magic folk."

The Chief nods. "Just keep sharp, and if you feel better suited somewhere else, move."

They have to use what they have to the best effect possible, and that goes especially for people.
