Everybody has to eat, even super serious Spartan-II's.
The Chief's in the mess hall, sitting by himself and working his way through a ration of tasteless nutrient mush while working on something on his omnicomm. The Chief's never been one to really take refuge in the sensoriums to make food taste better, he's gotten used to it and doesn't even think about it much.
He's not unaware of what's going on around him, but he has most of the comings and goings of the room basically tuned out.
This means someone should bother him, y/n?

She really needed to familiarize herself with some more of the technology involved here. She definitely felt like she was a country girl in a big city right now.

This girl seems awful young, but the Chief's seen enough out of the teenagers here not to question it too much. "Projectile or something else?" he asks, gesturing to the unfamiliar gun with a hand.

"My personal guns are energy weapons, powered off me. But my soul is worthless in a fight, I heal people." She didn't bother to pull out her gun to show him. She gestured to the gun she pulled out, "This is a' Energy weapon, but it appears to be based on a projectile weapon and modified. Can't kill, but for me I'm good with that so long as nobody means to kill me right now." She could get a proper lethal force weapon later on, when she's going into a fight that's sure to be them or her. Wandering around the ship she just feels better with something she can use to put someone down.

Incidents. Yes. That may be the best word for it, he decides.
He nods at the explanation about the weapon, he knows that a good number of crew members have nonlethals.

"If I can be of any value with combat training, let me know," she realized this was unlikely. She was too young to be taken seriously in a training situation, "Or whenever some training for the vehicles comes up. They certainly are..." Intimidating "Interesting."

"We've had mind controlling slugs, giant space roaches, pirates, and recently nightmare monsters."
no subject
Wait, that was a list of things that only warranted being noted as 'incidents,' "...I think I need a bigger gun."

Normally he might question someone this young, but the way she's comported herself suggest she knows what she's doing.

"I was pretty good with longer guns when I picked them up, but it would be a waste of resources to deploy me with any," Aine smiled, "But since weapons here don't rely on my Soul, I could probably pick up something with a faster fire rate or longer range and be pretty good with it. And kill things that need killing with it too."
"I'm Aine," she offered, working on the 'food' again. Probably should have started with that detail.
no subject
"What's all that about your soul?"
It sounds like one of yet another world's differences from his own, but it apparently had something to do with combat.

"In my case, I'm a White, I have healing powers. Which means there wasn't any point in training me with heavier guns. Even if I have a very strong ranged Form," She ate a little more of her food, "Since ranged weapons imitate your Nature, all my shots heal. Teaching me a deckgun or a rifle meant nothing in combat. Not a problem with the guns here, even if they use those weird bullet things."

And military at eight. That's... interesting, and is being filed away for future notice. He himself was conscripted at six, though. He won't comment on it though, it carves too close to some very classified information.

"What I know of the other Magic users on the ship, my single Nature is nothing compared to their capabilities," she didn't mind, she would find her place. If she could prove stronger than those with such advantages, her story would become more of an epic. Than if she were already the most powerful in the room. "I probably have more training than they do in other areas, outside of their specialty."
no subject
He won't admit it, but he feels a tad in over his head when they get too far into the subject.

She had trouble wrapping her mind around the magic users here, and she used magic. At least, something like magic. In any case she knew her place wasn't really with the mages. "I know wherever I pick to be I'll probably be over my head. But I think a place with soldiers will suit me better, unless orders say I'll be better with the Magic folk."

They have to use what they have to the best effect possible, and that goes especially for people.
