'Meat' 'n Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a green-skinned alien and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Kyle smiled in return. It was certainly interesting to see a Jedi who clearly wasn't afraid of their emotions. He felt it was a good sign for her future success. "You said you aren't from my universe. I'm a little curious about that. I've been all over my galaxy, and I've never seen a human with eyes like that."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"In my universe those with eyes such as mine are Fremen, from the planet known as Arrakis, Dune, or simply the desert planet. It is indicative of addiction to the narcotic called Spice, which permeates my world. They are called Ibad eyes. Our Universes, they must not be so far apart. The Jed-Eye seem to be very close to my order, though no Sister of the Bene Gesserit Order can..." Arha laughed and used the Force to unclip her milky white lightsaber from its place on her belt, "levitate objects with their mind in this manner. Such things I have learned."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"We have a desert world in my universe, but I'm sure Luke has told you about it." He raised an eyebrow as she talked about her order. There were Force traditions other than Jedi back home, but this was something completely new. "Bene Gesserit am I saying that right? You're peacekeepers like us? But you can't use the Force?"

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"My Order exists to help Humanity grow," Arha said softly. "We work behind many scenes to help guide our race to a better future. Or at least, it is a thing we try very hard to do. The last attempt nearly lead to our eventual extinction. As of late, I believe Humanity is headed in a better direction in my Universe. And yes, youare saying it correctly. The Bene Gesserit are trained from a very early age, or like myself from birth, shaped by their training to use their minds and their bodies as one unit. We have been called witches for what we have trained ourselves to do, to bend the body with the mind, to move quicker than a normal, untrained individual could, to put our minds into a state in which we may see what lies ahead. But no, we cannot use the Force. I am...unusual, I suppose. I have a talent in healing with my hands, an ability that was as much a mutation as anything, perhaps a perversion to some extent. It was that ability and my own openness along with pure need to heal Obi-Wan Kenobi that lead to my training as a Jed-Eye."

Her smile was thoughtful.

"Obi-Wan showed me the path to the Force," she said. "And I embraced it. Such a thing has given me new direction and new eyes with which to see many new things with. I am eternally grateful for such a thing, for in the Force I have gained something I did not ever think I could. Family."

"Working behind the scenes like that doesn't always work. Helping people without them knowing it sure, but trying to steer them a certain way I find usually doesn't work." It really didn't surprise him to hear that it almost blew up in there face. He'd done his share of behind the scenes operations, but never with the intention of guiding the galaxy. Just trying to solve one problem at a time. Maybe he was just letting his own feelings from the past cloud his judgment. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to sound like I was passing judgment. I'm sure your Order had the very best of intentions."

People always seem to. Way to make new friends Kyle.

"I, too, was manipulated," Arha said with a slight shrug, "from even before my own birth." Her blue-within-blue eyes were steady on his own, neither reproachful nor insulted, just intense. "I was the result of a breeding program in an effort to produce something that did not come about with my line. I was supposed to subvert the one called Muad'dib, a man who was able to do things the Bene Gesserit women could not go. He could see into the spaces we were unable to access, both male and female genetic memory. I was sixteen when I left Chapterhouse. My heighliner was destroyed, all aboard but myself were killed. I woke without memory on the sands of a world I knew was home, one that would become my home, my world and my life. The place I found myself in was, indeed, Arrakis, where this Paul Muad'dib was. All I knew was my name. I watched the conflict, the war between Harkkonen and Atreides forces, and I knew I could heal from instinct alone. It was Muad'dib I aided. The Bene Gesserit thought me dead and I kept quiet. Just watching. And healing when it was prudent."

Her face was expressionless.

"I spent almost a decade alone in the deep desert. I walked the burning sands in only my desert gear, survived sandstorms and road the great Shai'Hulud, the massive sandworm that populates the vast desert surface. I found a small cache of water and used it to survive season after season. My Order never found me. They never searched for me. I was forgotten and history went on. Some years in the future, I will marry, I will have children, but none out of love, and when I am forty-two years of age I shall be murdered for what I might have become. My two daughters will become part of a new breeding program. One not of Bene Gesserit design. My name shall be forgotten, my face erased."

She was silent for awhile.

"Yes, I am sure they had the very best of intentions," she said very quietly. "I will die because of what they made me. But am of two universes now. Dead to one, alive in the other, a synthesis of both in this place. I am something new and I am the Bene Gesserit Mother Superior, the head of a new Order with a new direction. I manipulate no one."

All the time Arha talked Kyle didn't break eye contact. The Force could give you an idea about someone, but it was in moments like this that you truly learned something about a person. About their character, and their fears. He had never meant to upset her, but for the moment he was grateful for the insight into her life. "I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. I know what's like to have people twist things for their own ends. Make you just a cog in their machine. Do as ordered, and don't think. Then to have everything turned upside down, and realize just how wrong things really are."

He paused for a moment as he rummaged through his own memories. When Jan had shown him the footage of the supposed Rebel attack that had killed his father. Of how he turned mercenary for years never willing to commit in full to the Rebellion. They had shown him the truth, but it was for their own ends too. He'd been so angry then. He'd grown, and learned. Bettered himself. Made the galaxy a better place. Still it was hard to let go.

"I know how angry it can make you, and how long it can take to let go of that anger. It's not easy. I was fortunate to have people who were willing to help me, and guide me to a bettering the world around me. It seems you've found the same thing. If I offended you I am sorry."

Maybe he still had a little wisdom after all.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"You would have to do far worse than that if you wished to offend me," Arha said, her voice warm again. "I wished you to know this thing so that you could see the difference between what the Bene Gesserit were and what I am. I am a heretic and outcast and I am a Jed-Eye. I have found a measure of peace in this, Kyle Katarn, and I have found a center that I have lacked all my own life."

She reached out to place a hand on his shoulder.

"Our pasts make up stronger for surviving them and they make us who we are. Never should you be sorry for them, but always learn their lessons. I know loss and I know the strain of being alone." Her smile lit her face. "I also know that anger serves nothing and only furthers pain. I have let go of this thing, though if I return, it will kill me a certain as any set thing. I do not even know if I can go home myself at this point as I am touched by the Force. Perhaps my whole future is now changed. Such things I do not know and I am content in this, as well. I am where I am needed."

Her fingers fell away.

"And the past is the past just as the future has yet to come."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle nodded as she spoke. He had said things in much the same fashion to his students. Just proves you never stop learning. Finding a center that you had never known before that was something he could understand. "I can relate it took me a long time to find where I belong. When I did though it felt right. Like nothing had before. I'm glad you've found the same."

"You know if you keep talking like this you're going to ruin my reputation as a great and wise Jedi Master." His tone is clearly mocking when it came to his title.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Luke has told me I sound very much like a Jed-Eye even before I was Jed-Eye. Such would be partially Bene Gesserit teaching and part Fremen and still, partially my own experiences," Arha said, wryly amused. "But I have many, many lifetimes of genetic memory to draw from in addition."

She sidled a glance at Kyle and snorted softly.

"I will have to try a great deal harder if I am to ruin such a thing."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Luke has always been good at knowing who people really are. Sometimes even before we realize it ourselves. He's also pretty stubborn about it too." He said smiling. "Well even if my reputation is intact it doesn't mean I still don't have things to learn. That is if you're willing to teach an old man a few new tricks?"

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
"The only time you cease learning is when you no longer draw breath," Arha said with a laugh. "You will learn until you cease, such is the blessing of being both Jed-Eye and sentient. If you wish to learn, I am agreeable to teach, in turn I learn from you. The arrangement is perfect and I like such a thing."

The smile that blossomed across her face was just about blinding in its joy.

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Very true, and I find the arrangement very agreeable." Sensing her joy through the Force was remarkable. Not that he minded. Emotions weren't something to be frightened of. It made him think back to when he'd entered a similar agreement with Mara quite a few years ago. Some bad memories there, but mostly good. "Once I settle in we'll have to set a time, and place for training. Maybe this Sensorium I keep hearing about?"

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
"There or at the Jed-Eye temple in the city," Arha said. "Either place would be acceptable. Tycho, who is my commanding officer of the Rogue Squadron, has a training program set up that might be beneficial as well, but there are many, many things that can be done with the Sensoriums. I shall show you much."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Actually I would like to train in the Sensoriums. I'm really interested in learning how to program them." Especially if he had to help the Rogues he'd need to set up several training programs.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2010-04-05 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Then we shall do so," Arha said with a nod. "It is not a hard thing to learn. You simply need focus and the will to picture things in your mind."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-05 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Good, I'm looking forward to it." It bothered him a little that this Sensorium could just reach into a person's mind to find what they wanted, but then he supposed it did save a lot of time. "Soon I hope."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2010-04-05 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
"When you are ready," Arha said with a slight nod, "you may contact me via the omnicom or, if you wish, through the Force. I shall be able to find you, I think. It is like hide and find, yes? I am a good player of that when it comes to my Jed-Eye."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-05 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Now that sounded like fun. Not to mention a great training opportunity. "Maybe we could play a little in the Sensoriums. I've always felt stealth was one of the best tools we have as Jedi. In no one even knows we were there in the first place we've done our job right."

Plus it was always easier to make the stormtroopers look the other way than trying to blast through them.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2010-04-05 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"I would enjoy such a thing," Arha said, unable to contain her excitement and most definite glee at the prospect of fun training exercises. "I would think that outside of Sensoriums, in the city itself, would also be a good place to do something like that. Perhaps with all Jed-Eye, yes? First, though, Sensorium practice. I like this idea. Stealth is...not easy for me when it comes to the Force, though it can be easier as a physical thing than a mental."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-05 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't worry we'll work on it, and I'm sure Luke wouldn't mind rounding up everyone for some training." It looked like his life here was going to be busy. That was good idleness just lead to bad things.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2010-04-05 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Such is a lovely idea," Arha said. Had she less control she might have twirled and bounced in anticipation, but she did not. "We must do so as soon as all have been settled."
