'Meat' 'n Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a green-skinned alien and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"Greetings, m'lady." The tall, skinny man in the make-shift black kilt was also people-watching, a somewhat amused expression almost permanently attached to his face.

One hand on a hip, he glanced at her, quirking his head to the side. "You look comfortable."

Oh. Great. Stacy and the speech again. He put his arms down at his sides again and took a deep breath. "Yeah," he exhaled, shaking his head some. "I've been informed, plenty of times." There was a slight pause as he stared at her, squinting his eyes some.

"How long have you been here?" He wanted to feel her head, make sure she was feeling all right. What did they do to his sister? Why was she acting just like the rest of them?

Death wasn't something she had delusions about. She was a healer, and she did her job well. However, she was no saint. She had limits, and people must die. Stories end and those of no effect vanish. It was one of the lessons she learned at the academy, and then truly understood in combat.

Still, at this scale, that was not the natural way of things. One did not die in such a way, not at this scale. The hurt of this idea showed in her eyes as she looked at him, "Yes... all legends must reach an end eventually. I just did not expect the only legends to survive to be the ones in my memory. Don't your people find solace in the fact they will be remembered?"

It was only thanks to Stacy’s translators that Aeneas’s form of communication could even be remotely considered ‘talking’; it was more like what one would expect to come out of a cat or elk or a radio without a signal, none of which involved the slightest movement of his pyramid-shaped mandibles, which clicked or twitched every once in a while, but otherwise remained completely still. His vocalizations were so odd, in fact, that even the translators had to take a few moments to spit out anything understandable. And it wasn’t even just the sounds he made—a single squint of the eye, a curl of the brow, a leaning of his ears or a swing of his tail, could completely change a simple phrase into something far more complex. It was an interesting system.

At the time his tone was oddly cheery, perhaps even joking in the way his grinning brow prevailed over narrowed, content eyes, but it was clear that dear Aeneas only wanted to help. That was all he ever wanted to do. The politeness in his translated voice could convey little else.

“I have only been here a few months myself,” the alien admitted, suddenly getting the urge to keep this one talking, “It is a large place—strange, at first, but you get used to it. Regardless—“ he was scratching his ear now, “—Introductions, right. I am Aeneas. What should I call you?”

"You would be," Celes replied stiffly, as she ran through her mind again, trying to remember the lessons that had only been half-listened to about hell. It certainly hadn't been described as... breathing, that was certain. Her face was curiously placid as she spoke, though her words were no less cool, "My name is General Celes Chere, though I've a feeling that titles are a moot point here."

One hand motioned out towards the rest of the crowd, "I've heard that our worlds have been destroyed," after all, people did talk, and it wasn't as if they were particularly quiet about that. Still, if they'd taken her, certainly they'd taken Terra who was so much more powerful, and the others, as well. "Allow me to extend my condolences to you."

[identity profile] demon-alessa.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
"She's a good fighter," Alessa said. "I decided it might be best not to let her know my true nature. Might strain our cooperation."

She looked at him. "I trust people on the ship have been reasonably polite?"

[identity profile] lady-general.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Celes raised an eyebrow at him, and tilted her head to the side as if to ask which of the Triad had sent her someone who looked like they'd just crawled out of the Veldt. "As comfortable as one would expect to be, I'd imagine, in clothing that seems to pulse on its own."

She extended her hand to him for a proper shake, "General Celes Chere, and you are?"

"Tali!" Oh god, was it great to hear a familiar voice! Who cared about keeping the typical captain's distance when it almost felt like you were the only one? she leaned in to take Tali into a very welcoming hug, being sure not to harm her in the process.

Pulling away, there was definitely a more cheerful smile. "Well I hope you saved some for me. How have you been? How long have you been here?"

Ever gallant, Geoffrey took the proffered hand and bowed over it. Ever slightly inappropriate, he maintained contact and barely hid his smirk while he did so. "Geoffrey Chaucer, m'lady, writer and previously herald to Sir William Thatcher of London."

Straightening, he relinquished her hand before continuing. "I confess, the recommended clothing was far too... foreign for my tastes. And thus," he gestured to his own rather skimpy mode of dress to finish his explanation.

Evangeline really, really should have questioned why Yue, usually one of the more staid members of her apprentice's cheering squad, was suddenly blathering at her like one of the bounty hunters she had, from her rather narrow perspective on the matter, otherwise mostly finished killing the stupid out of centuries ago.

And, technically, she did. But her mouth just kind of ran on its own in the meantime.

"Neither would I. But then you've been waving that toy in my face for three whole seconds and I haven't fed it to you yet. Maybe I'm turning over a new leaf."

"... Yeah, I know." Fate said, the smile returning to her face.

"Thanks, Signum."

Claire grimaced a little at his question, her right hand coming up to absently mess with the bandage wrapped around her right forearm.

"A while." Time got kind of blurry on the meatship. She furrowed her brow for a second, trying to think how long it had actually been. "...About ten months, I think. Time moves weird here, so sometimes it's difficult to tell."
starlightace: (Oh?)

She took his hand with a surprisingly firm grip for someone of her build, but seemed to pause a bit at the mention of his last name. "Oh? Any relationship to Luke Skywalker?"

Nanoha was rather fond of the older Jedi Knight - it'd be good for him to see some more people from home, especially if they were family.

That was a good point, the creature spoken of in stories and files could have killed half the people in the room by now. It was possible due to the situation she could not, or choose not to for her own reasons. It is a rather poor way to make friends.

Still, she was a creature that was very dangerous, it wasn't like ignoring her was a better plan, "Centuries of records don't just go away because you haven't killed me. For whatever reason you haven't." Probably should not be taunting the aged evil, "Are you intending to help in this situation, or just make the Ohm's job easier?"

Mentally, Celes took a deep, deep breath and counted to ten before she crossed her arms under her breath. She could handle this, just the same way she could handle Edgar's teasing little flirtations on the way to Zozo. It was just a matter of not reaching out the throttle the knave she'd known for a handful of minutes.

London she'd never heard of, so Celes was understandably a bit dubious about his name. "So I see. How was it you managed to... dress yourself? Certainly there are people here in items not," she picked at the chest of her plantsuit, where Ramuh winked in the light, "so unnatural as this." And where could she find them?

Ben was used to people recognizing the family name, but was a little impressed that his dad had gotten "Skywalker" instant recognition in just a few months. "He's my dad."

"At the moment? A bit shaky, admittedly. We're going to be reorganizing soon. Instituting a seperate civilian and military command structure. As it is, we're planning on having a council to deal with civilian matters and a military command to deal with undertaking missions and the defense of the crew from any enemies that might threaten them."

He settled his hands on his hips and then offered the Guv one in greeting. "I'm Captain James T. Kirk, acting captain, former commander of the starship Enterprise."

"Pleased to meet you, Miss Aine. Welcome aboard - although I wish there was more we could do to answer your questions and help you." He nodded thoughtfully.

"We'll be glad to have your assistance. At the moment, organization is kind of loose - it ought to be tightening up soon, though. What kind of skills do you have? Magic? Physical fighting?"

Zhiai'kahn had indeed noticed the complexity of the creature's body language. Had she been born a few generations earlier, she may have been able to make sense of it, but the Sansani race had abandoned its old, more complex, more movement-driven language in an attempt to be taken more seriously by the more advanced races of their planet. It was a great cultural loss, but she had heard some talk recently of teaching it to youngsters now that the Sansani controlled the planet.

"It is strange, yes," she said, "it has the feeling of a jungle, but without the trees." The heat and humidity didn't bother her in the slightest, as her species' natural habitat was the jungle. Though, the lack of trees was a bit disheartening, as her people were arboreal. "And I heard this was some kind of starship. I admit, I had never expect to be in such a ship in my life. But, as you said, introductions. I am called Zhiai'kahn Ahl."

She chuckles.

"Only as long as you don't try to have me train raw recruits."

That was...certainly not her thing.

"I, too, was manipulated," Arha said with a slight shrug, "from even before my own birth." Her blue-within-blue eyes were steady on his own, neither reproachful nor insulted, just intense. "I was the result of a breeding program in an effort to produce something that did not come about with my line. I was supposed to subvert the one called Muad'dib, a man who was able to do things the Bene Gesserit women could not go. He could see into the spaces we were unable to access, both male and female genetic memory. I was sixteen when I left Chapterhouse. My heighliner was destroyed, all aboard but myself were killed. I woke without memory on the sands of a world I knew was home, one that would become my home, my world and my life. The place I found myself in was, indeed, Arrakis, where this Paul Muad'dib was. All I knew was my name. I watched the conflict, the war between Harkkonen and Atreides forces, and I knew I could heal from instinct alone. It was Muad'dib I aided. The Bene Gesserit thought me dead and I kept quiet. Just watching. And healing when it was prudent."

Her face was expressionless.

"I spent almost a decade alone in the deep desert. I walked the burning sands in only my desert gear, survived sandstorms and road the great Shai'Hulud, the massive sandworm that populates the vast desert surface. I found a small cache of water and used it to survive season after season. My Order never found me. They never searched for me. I was forgotten and history went on. Some years in the future, I will marry, I will have children, but none out of love, and when I am forty-two years of age I shall be murdered for what I might have become. My two daughters will become part of a new breeding program. One not of Bene Gesserit design. My name shall be forgotten, my face erased."

She was silent for awhile.

"Yes, I am sure they had the very best of intentions," she said very quietly. "I will die because of what they made me. But am of two universes now. Dead to one, alive in the other, a synthesis of both in this place. I am something new and I am the Bene Gesserit Mother Superior, the head of a new Order with a new direction. I manipulate no one."

The brown-haired man seemed familiar. Deunan wasn't sure if it was just one of those things, or if he was someone she knew slightly. You couldn't tell a healthy human from a bioroid just by looking, so there was no clue there.

She caught up to him easily, since he was mingling and that slowed him down. "Hey, mister. Do I know you?" Deunan asked, using "mister" instead of "buddy" or "pal" being her idea of courtesy.

It had been years since she'd seen Star Trek.

"Fancy."

He took the hand without hesitation, shaking it confidently. "People call me the Guv. Former leader of the general population of Crematoria."

[identity profile] captain-jtk.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, Mister Guv, we're pleased to have you aboard. Your leadership experience might come in handy. Wish I could say I had a better idea of where we're going to end up, but... well, I think we're all a little out of our depth here," Kirk chuckled.

[identity profile] captain-jtk.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Kirk turned to face the young woman, one brow quirked. It was possible she was from somewhere in his own universe - he had built a name for himself after all - but she didn't look familiar. He offered her a winning smile and extended his hand. "Perhaps. Captain James T. Kirk, acting captain and former commander of the starship Enterprise."
