He probably needed to stop, needed to rest. His injuries, individually, weren't severe, but the sheer number of them piled up to inflict a lot of damage and cost him a lot of blood. Not to mention they were all poorly treated. He couldn't stop, though, because if he did then he'd just mentally watch Kon die all over again.
