Meeting of the Minds

After the initial confusion of the pod release, the podlings have been allowed to wander at their discretion around the living area.

However, even though no one really pointed it out, people might find themselves drawn to a large oblong room at the one end. All of the hallways just seemed to lead there, for some strange reason.

The ceiling was massively tall, and shaped like a semi-circular dome. This sight would greet anyone who entered. There were fleshy couches and chairs for those that wished to sit down.

It looked, quite accurately, like a place people were meant to gather.

And gather they would.

She gave him an odd look, "You have heard of them? What about the Avengers? The X-Men?"

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Aw, sure, 'course I have! Big fan! Well, not recently, gotten a bit out of the habit, but yeah! Though Power Pack! Oh, the Power Pack! Loved them. Power Pack was always my favorite." The Doctor is not a pedo. Really.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Only heard a little of them. Things have changed a lot since the Registration Act went into effect. Some teams and sides shifted after the war, and now there's rumors of Skrulls in hiding."

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Registration Act...? Sorry, don't really know anything after the 90s. Which, ah, brings us to the subject of multiple, alternative universes. Which are actually quite simple to understand and really straight forward so I'm sure you need no explanation. And the fact that I'm, well you're, well, one of us is from, depending on how you look at it, one."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"The 90s? You time travel too? The only time we did was to an alternate world so yes, I know what you mean. Dealing with Kang the Conquerer was a pain and a half, and we lost a friend of ours to time from it."

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, well, mostly do time travel, actually. Sort of a time tourist. Well, time and space tourist. Same thing, really."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't you worry about changing time though by doing that? And space too?"

Wry look, "Let me guess, left your ship in your other suit, right?"

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
"What? Oh, nah. Pretty good at not doing that."

He turns grumpy, "Apparently Stacy has it somewhere. Classified."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
"You have better luck than we did then." Thinking especially of the changes for Jessica, having no baby in that alternate world, and New York reduced to smoldering ruins.

"Great, so there goes our escape option."

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, well." He preens a bit.

"Unless we can find her. And I'm not precisely going to stop looking."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Small grin at that, "Good, you need any help with the scouting, let me know."

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I most certainly will, Miss Hawkeye."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Either Kate, Miss Kate or Hawkeye is fine, thank you. And good. I can watch your back if we run into anything interesting too." Though that might be obvious with her mini arsenal.

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
He frowned, noticing the weaponry somehow for the first time. "I don't approve of violence."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't like it either, but I'll do what I have to to keep people safe. But I'm a Young Avenger. We go after the bad guys, but we don't kill. Never that."

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Good." For a babble-mouth, this was one subject the Doctor was succinct about. He did relax a bit, though.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
She nodded in reply, and glanced over at the others.

"Somebody has to make sure there's no more victims. Protect them all," she quietly added, her own thoughts more inward and reflective with memories.

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes," on that he agreed with her completely. It was part of what he did, after all, a large part of what kept him going. "But violence doesn't solve anything."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Both heroes in some fashion. They can smell their own.

"No, can't cure hunger with it, or give a homeless person shelter. But you can save someone's life with it. Defend those who can't defend themselves."

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
"There's always another option." He would not bend on that point. Not anymore.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Must be nice to have that luxury," she simply replied.

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
That got him angry. His expression turned even harder, and a little wild. "It's not a luxury. You treat lives as a luxury every time you use a weapon, every time you hurt someone. But there is always a way besides violence, if you only bother to look."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, you try telling somebody who's attacking and trying to kill your friend to stop. It doesn't work. They don't listen unless you do something to make them listen." Her eyes with bright and narrowed as she stepped forward to get in his face.

Her eyes were getting damp as she spat out, "You try tell somebody to stop. Repeatedly, and no, only they don't care, they'll never hear you because they just want to take what they want. So you have to make sure they don't get that chance the first time. It's not being blind, it's about them being deaf."

[identity profile] fluffinasuit.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
"That's why you make them listen!" His voice was intense, a quiet roar. So far he was refraining from shaking the girl, but he loomed angry and dangerous in her face.

"Even if they use violence, you don't have to! You escape, you get up, you distract them, but you do not hurt them! Once you do, you can't stop, and people get hurt and they die!" And you end up alone; an old, bitter, angry warrior who doesn't have a peace left to fight for and whose warnings no one will listen to.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"People get hurt and die anyway, especially if you don't act."

She countered, glaring up at him challengingly, "Police are allowed to use deadly force when somebody's armed with a gun, we don't even do that. We just stop them so no one else gets hurt or killed. Just because people have died on your watch doesn't give you the right to argue with what we have to do. And if you really knew my world like you said you do, you'd know that we're doing the best that we can with what we can do!"
