Brainiac 5, for all his 12th-level genius, is an idiot. Sometimes there's just this thing that mad scientist nerds do, a sort of super-focus that overrides all else. Brainy seems to be in that fugue state of total concentration right now, as he distractedly gets himself some food.

He's an idiot because it's been days since he's, you know, eaten, because he still hasn't slept, and because he still hasn't had his own injuries tended to. (The plant-sap is a wound sealant and antibacterial agent. It'll do for now, is his reasoning).

Even now, he's synched up his omnicom to the vitals of the few left in the MedBay, and is plinking away at it. Sam is stable, but still in his coma, or else he wouldn't have left.

"Omnicom, record under medical file for Winchester, Sam. New entry. Neural regeneration proceeding as planned, and neural grafts seems to be healing cleanly. Vital signs are stable. BP and pulse are at normal parameters, but further monitoring is advised..."

While distracted, and prone to bumping into someone else with his tray as he carries it back with him to a table to wolf down slop as quickly as he's able, he's there, if anyone has need of him, or wants to goggle at the green guy (if they're new), or wants to know why Superman wanted to beat him up.

"Dude. You look like hell, you know that? How long has it been since you slept?"

"Irrelevant." Plink plink plink. "I require far less sleep than humans, or even most Coluans, do."

Kal walks in and sees Brainiac...Five talking to someone else. Probably would be best not to interrupt that, especially since you tried to take him out a short time ago.

He attempts to turn around and leave...

"You taking into account being injured?"

"It's a minor abrasion. The suits appear to have antiseptic agents that fill in a wound when they're breached."

It perhaps seems at first as if Brainy hasn't seen Superman, as he's still looking at his omnicom as he talks too Danny, but then, with only a brief glance up, he says, "If you'll excuse me for a moment..."

He gets up, walks over, reaches into one of the pouches of his belt, and holds out a small, lead box to Superman, without a word.

It's likely familiar, and Brainy isn't the last person Kal handed that box to.

He's seen that box before, and looks at Brainy. "Is that what I think it is?"

"If you think it's a green glowing rock that-" Danny suddenly realizes something. "Waitaminute. You were the one who hit me earlier?" The question is directed at Brainy.

...Thanks for bringing that up in front of Superman, Danny. Really.

Brainy winces.

"I wasn't certain if you were infested and I needed you to hold still for scanning to determine it. You were a significant threat if under their control, and it was the safest route to take," he says to Danny.

To Superman, he says, "Yes. It's a ring composed of kryptonite. It was in Robin's possession--he nearly killed Supergirl and Superboy with it while under the parasite's control."

And he assumes that all three of them do not want kryptonite in a Brainiac's possession.

Superman...accepts the box...opens it for about .32 seconds before shutting it after the first wave of nausea hits.

He then looks at Brainiac. "I had originally given it to his mentor to have a way to stop me if I should lose control. Someone on the ship should have it, but until I get a sense of the who and the when..."

He sighs. "Thank you." He then offers a hand. "I'm sorry for earlier."

Brainy just...looks at his hand for a moment, and realizing that his normal no-touchy thing probably isn't a good idea when he's trying to convince someone he's not a bad guy, he takes Superman's hand and shakes it. (He does very subtly wipe his hand on his plant-suit afterwards, though).

"We have worked together once before, by my own personal timeline. You appear to have been pulled before then, or you would have recognized me. As this was technically our first meeting for you, your reaction, given my ancestor's villainy is...understandable. I faced him myself when the Legion of Superheroes was briefly trapped in the 20th century, and he nearly destroyed me."

Then he and Brainiac 2 beat him with sticks, and the Legion came to save him. That had been a close one, though.

"Yeah, Brainy's not evil. His social skills just suck so much he kind of sounds morally ambigous without meaning to on occasion." Danny says, poking at his food.

"Thank you, Daniel, for that masterful assessment of my interpersonal relations."

"Hey, I call 'em like I see 'em. Don't blame me if everyone's first impression of you generally turns out horribly."

Kara grins as she spots Brainy walking towards the medlab. A familiar face. One that's less confusing than the familiar face she's just met from back home. Yay!

Kara steps in time with Brainy and grins brightly at him. "Have a nice meal?"

"It was nourishing. That's all that can be said of the meals here."

He's still plink-plinking away.

"I spoke to your cousin," he adds. "And gave him the kryptonite ring."

Kara nods. "Trying to get into his good books since he obviously doesn't know you, or did you just not want to keep it on you?" She clasps her hands behind her back and continues walking. "Either way, it'll help you earn Kal's trust, and I know that means a lot to you."

"Both." He frowns at the last part. "However, his trust means nothing to me. It's simply practical that I take actions that make a cooperative relationship more viable, given our circumstances."

Kara raises an eyebrow. "I'm not buying that, and neither are you," she says.

A sigh. "Must every one of my actions result in some sort of protracted examination of my intentions?"

"It's our thing, Brainy," Kara says, feigning surprise at his annoyance. "You say something, I try to dig deeper, you deny it, I press the issue, and then we either end up fighting or flir...er...flying in opposite directions." She gives him a bright smile. "And we both know you enjoy it, but go ahead and protest."

"I most certainly do not enjoy it. You're extremely irritating."

And yet, he isn't walking any faster to avoid her or shoeing her away.

"Mmmm." Kara lifted herself off of the ground and floated in front of Brainy, going backwards as he stepped forward. She did that thing with her hand and his cheek, barely touching it and, tilting her head, said, "The Brainy doth protest too much, methinks."

"Extremely, monumentally irritating," he says, not looking up, and moving sideways past her.

If she looks, she'll see the sticky, planty, sap-mess that is his back, which he hasn't bothered to tend to. Still.

"All you'd need is a loud, annoying trait like spewing Socialist dogma at every turn, or being unerringly smug, and you'd get along swimmingly with the Legion, were they here."

He's fond of them, too, though, honestly, which makes that statement something of a backhanded compliment.

"Awww, Brainy! You compared me to the Legion! You like me! You really like me!" Yes, she was going over the top, but with Brainy, it was just so much fun to do that. He was so stoic and serious ~~and sexy~~ that it was hard not to. She circles around him and then comes back up in front of him, raising an eyebrow. "What's the hot planty mess on your back all about?"

"I was shot."
