Preparations [Open]

If one were to pass by the Sensoriums today, one might hear some rather loud noises coming from inside - and if one were a mage, one might sense some blistering magical power being released from within the room.

After her little incident (what with collapsing from overexertion and all), Nanoha had managed to convince Fate, arguing that if the blonde girl didn't want her to go overboard on training, she'd have to be Nanoha's training partner. Naturally, Fate had agreed. It was a good thing, too, because Nanoha knew that Fate was someone who was strong enough to go toe-to-toe with her, meaning they could push each other to grow stronger... even if she did have to be reminded not to go easy just because they were close.

"Axel Shooter."

The two of them were flying in the air high above a simulated park, flashes of pink and yellow magic arcing through the clear blue sky as they traded fire. Trying to keep her distance from her friend's melee, Nanoha flew backwards, weaving to make herself a harder target to hit, as little pink orbs sprung into being around her, jetting at the other girl one by one.

They had to be ready for whatever the Nightmare King was going to throw at them, mentally and physically.

(ooc: Come in, interrupt them! If you want training, if you want to just hang out and chat, or if you want to watch two high-powered mages going at it just shy of full-tilt. :D)

The sparring match was doing wonders for Fate, and it wasn't just the workout. She loved training with Nanoha, and between this and the recent lack of nightmares, she was feeling much more energized than she had been in the past week or so.

"Plasma Lancer."

Several yellow orbs surrounded Fate before shooting forward, intercepting Nanoha's own attack. The pink and yellow magic bullets clashed and canceled each other out, leaving Fate free to fly forward, Bardiche raised.

After her dream and talk with Sheeana and Alia, not to mention posting a spot for her friends to gather, Katara had marched herself back to the Sensorium. She had done this with a degree of difficulty: after all, Matt had shown her a WATER ROOM. She may as well have been at the Spirit Oasis, the vibe there was so tranquil and spiritual. Still, peace of mind would be had when she felt she was strong enough to handle herself and people around her. The shake up with Alia had left her with more questions, more curiosity over how far back things between her and the voices went. It was a lot to take in.

So when she entered the Sensorium, ready to give herself some more training, she was not expecting it to be occupied. What was more, she was also not expecting pink orbs springing out of the air. She was surprised momentarily but relaxed when she saw one of the occupants was Nanoha, though the other girl she was sure she hadn't met yet.

But there was little time for pleasantries when a rogue pink orb was coming at you. With the snap timing of the budding student of a Bene Gesserit, Katara moved out of the way and erected an ice wall, which was demolished immediately by another pink orb. She couldn't help it: she laughed, happy to see that she was getting even faster.

Fate was coming at her much too quickly for her to counterattack, and Nanoha's eyes went wide as she began to evade, but her arm came up just in case.

"Round Shield."

The disc spun into being, shielding her from the attack just long enough for Nanoha to put some distance between them, summoning more of the little orbs to attack Fate. She knew she was no match in a close combat fight for Fate, so she had to keep her distance.

Nanoha normally prided herself on her control of her attack magic, but Fate was faster than she'd remembered, and there was no time to keep control of her Axel Shooter - she focused instead on evading the girl's sweeping scythe, glad that there was no one in the room with them. Sloppy, perhaps, but Fate was an intimidating opponent.

...until it clicked that there was someone with them, and she was right in the path of one of her attacks. "H-hey!" Nanoha called out. "Watch out!"

She tried to regain control of the orbs, knowing Fate's reflexes were good enough to stop attacking her, but it was too late - thankfully, whoever it was was able to erect a defense. Still, to Nanoha's chagrin, she shouldn't have had to.

And now, as she swooped lower, she recognized the figure. "Katara, are you hurt?!"

"Sonic Move."

With the boost in speed, Fate was able to easily weave in and out of the barrage and move behind Nanoha, all in barely the blink of an eye.

"Scythe Form."

The head of Fate's Device twisted as a yellow crescent of energy formed, and Fate slashed her new weapon forward. There was strength behind the attack, but not enough to seriously hurt Nanoha should it connect.

That blistering speed was something Nanoha was entirely too familiar with, and it wasn't something she could easily keep up with. She spun again, erecting a hasty Round Shield once more... and when Fate's attack connected, she squeezed her fist shut.

"Barrier Burst!"

The shield detonated in a focused explosion that directed its destructive potential out at the one who had hit it.

Katara grinned, bringing her head out of the now demolished ice wall. "No, I'm all right Nanoha! I've never seen you guys do this before, so I wasn't sure what was going to happen. But I guess you guys are training now, aren't you? I didn't mean to get in your way!"

She really didn't but had to admit she was feeling far giddier than she'd expected. There was something about the reaction time, the speed, that made her long to be at a fight again. It was stupid, of course, she wasn't one to bring a fight for the fun of it, but to finally be able to use her limbs in something other than just computer simulations felt wonderful.

"I do want to watch you guys, if you don't mind. I haven't really seen powers like this yet, it was great! But if you happen to shoot a little crazily into the field, I don't mind that...I kind have some training I have to do myself."

But as she got closer, it made sense why they were doing this, and her casual attitude diappeared.

"The Nightmare King?"

As quick as Fate was, she wasn't quick enough to dodge an explosion from such a close range. The Barrier Burst sent her flying back, but she was able to recover quickly.

"Arc Saber."

Fate slashed down with Bardiche, and the energy blade shot forward, aiming straight for Nanoha. While Nanoha was busy guarding against that attack, Fate flew behind her again, trying to catch her off-guard.

Nanoha's smile thinned slightly at Katara's question, and she nodded. "Yeah... the Nightmare King. We need to be at the top of our game for whatever he throws at us, don't you think?"

It wasn't like Katara was 'getting in the way,' though. It was just a spar, after all, and... come to think of it, had they met yet? Nanoha turned, calling out into the air to Fate. "Fate-chan! Come here! You should meet Katara!"

Nanoha knew Fate well enough to know what she was trying to do, but it was still hard to counter - as she dodged to the side, the Arc Saber caught her legs, sending pain flashing through her body as it detonated, spinning her around in a spiral that it was difficult to control... but somehow, she managed.

Just in time for Fate to reappear near her as she spun around. Nanoha raised her staff to guard against the attack, fighting through the pain.

Fate had been waiting patiently up in the air as Nanoha spoke to Katara, not wanting to interrupt. But as soon as the other girl called out to her, Fate floated down and walked towards the two of them.

"Hello, Katara. It's nice to meet you!" Fate said, smiling as she spoke.

Katara was more than happy to meet someone new, and considering the powers they had, it seemed as if the two of them must be from the same world. That was always a comforting thing to see, especially whenever she saw Will and Matt together. It reminded her how lucky she was that she was one of the few to have her brother and her friends on the ship, and hopefully Aang soon.

"Likewise, I'm sure!" Katara said, returning the smile. "Looking at your fighting styles, I guess you guys are from the same world! Are you friends there too?"

It may have seemed like a strange question, but considering Sheeana and Alia, who were both from the same world but years apart and hated each other, were both from Arrakis, it was safe to ask.

Nanoha was able to guard just in time, and she was able to intercept Fate's attack before she connected. She didn't back off, and continued to press forward.

As long as she kept this fight in close-range, she definitely had the advantage.

Nanoha's smile grew slightly sheepish, with a faint tinge coming to her cheeks. "Ah... well, yes, we are! Katara, this is Fate, my best friend and, um, partner. Fate, this is Katara - she's become a friend of mine here on the ship."

Fate wasn't the only one who knew how much of an advantage she had up close, and Nanoha kept flying back, trying to put some room between the two of them.

"Strike Flame."

Little slots slid open on the head of Raising Heart's Excelion form, with gouts of magenta fire spouting into thick, shimmering wings that would help hold her own in melee combat. Nanoha swung the spear around, the wings slicing through the air like blades of their own.

Of course Fate knew Nanoha meant "partner" in the professional sense, but that didn't stop her from blushing just a little too. She tried to shake it off though, and held out a gloved hand.

"Well, any friend of Nanoha is a friend if mine... if you don't mind, that is."

Katara, who was quick to pick up on words and even quicker at people's reactions, played with what she heard in her head a moment. Why would Fate blush for calling her a partner? That was nothing to be ashamed of.

"Of course not!" Katara said. "I'd love the idea of getting to know you guys better! We're all in this together, right?"

And then it hit her.

"Oh!" Katara exclaimed, looking at Nanoha. "You're Fate's girlfriend too, aren't you?"

Well played, Katara. Nanoha looked even more sheepish now - she was fine with people knowing, but she knew how self-conscious Fate got about it - as she looked back at Fate and then at Katara, nodding. "Well, yeah. That too."

Ohgodsobluntdidshehavetobesoblunt. It's not like she was ashamed or wanted to deny their relationship. She would never! Just. So blunt.

Poor Fate's face was now as red as a tomato. Feel free to tease her, girls.

Katara, who was quick to get in the general vein of things, gave Fate a knowing look. "Well, you were pretty obvious, Fate. I mean, I've never seen anyone look so red. You must really like her, huh? But that's a good thing, right? I mean, you're both girls, so you can even room together! Think of all the romantic times you could have!"

She looked over at Nanoha, smirking. Feel free to join in on the teasing.

She really shouldn't tease the poor girl, but it was second nature to her, and Nanoha leaned in to Katara conspiratorially, her voice turning into a mock whisper that was of course audible by all parties involved. "Oh, you don't even know the half of it, Katara. Why do you think we're staying together at the Outsiders hotel?"

Nanoha chuckled, hoping that her tone was playful enough that Fate would get it was a joke. Well, even if it wasn't.

Fate was cursing Nanoha's love of teasing her. Cursing it so bad. But! She laughed nervously, hoping Katara will just brush it off as a joke.

"N-Nanoha, don't tell her things like that. You don't want to give people the wrong idea, do you?"

"Defenser."

It was a weak shield, yes, but it was able to reflect a few of Nanoha's attacks. Just as the barrier shattered, Fate saw an opening in the other girl's attack, and slashed forward.

And Katara certainly understood the teasing after all: Meluly did it all the time to her, and at time Sheena could also purposely say things about the Bene Gesserit's abilities to see her blush. She was beginning to see why the women loved making her squirm.

"Oh, don't worry, my lips are sealed, Fate," Katara said, winking. "Just make sure the boys don't fund out, or I'm going to have to start hosing them down with cold water when you guys walk by."

At that, Nanoha blinked, looking between the two of them. "Do you really think they'd care all that much? I mean, it's just a relationship. Everyone has them, right? Or at least they want to have them."

But she smiled anyway. "Thanks for keeping the secret anyway."
