A chill in the air. Whispers on the breeze.

Many things have been on the minds of the crew lately, and many things have happened.

There is, however, one happening which might go completely unnoticed by all but the most astute members of the crew.

Lately, all across the ship, in different rooms at different times, there is a strange feeling of unnaturalness. It happens slowly, so slowly one could hardly notice the change until it was entirely there.

The air, normally temperate and vaguely humid, begins to become chilled and dry.

The faint sounds of voices can be heard, whispering as if conspiring together, just far off enough to be unintelligible.

The shapes of objects in the area seem to subtly change, forming almost impossible angles if one watches long enough.

The last, and perhaps most noticeable to some, is the feeling of being observed. Not in the same way Stacy watches over the crew, but rather as if something is looking directly into you, straight into your soul.

Eventually, these feelings will fade, moving on to some other part of the ship.

However, they do seem to last long enough for one to attempt to investigate, should someone manage to work up the will to remain in the area long enough.

There is someone. A will that had avoided being broken so much before would hardly be broken by something that felt WRONG.

And she could feel it. She was too used to constantly LOOK for such things not to feel it. Being astute would have saved her life and that was not easily forgotten.

She was in a hall, somewhere between the rooms and the Media Library, looking around the hallway as the air seemed to shift.

And she would wait, until she could figure out what had caused it.

Arha shifted in her chair as the first prickle of coldness settled and she snapped right out of the meditative state she'd fallen into. By the time the murmuring voices and the sense of being watched had arrived, the fine hairs at the back of her neck had risen.

She, too, rose, and probed the unnaturalness with the Force and her Bene Gesserit honed mind. What was this? It was as if she was being scrutinized by something or someone. Not one to back away from that, Arha remained defiantly and her stare lanced through the unnaturalness.

She had survived the Proctor's examinations many times and she refused to let something just as pointed and creepy shake her off.

Luke, too, was reaching out, trying to discern the nature of the strange emanations in the Force, and encountered Arha's probing mind. He brushed against her presence, half-curious and half-questioning.

What is it?

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not know, Arha replied. Whatever it is does not feel right at all. And truly it didn't. She did not like the chill and curled in on herself, frowning deeply. There is something here, I think. It watches and makes me freeze. For you as well?

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, me too. Luke slowly opened his eyes; the hair on the back of his neck was standing up straight, and he was sure if the plantsuit wasn't in the way he'd have goosebumps. It felt wrong, like the cave on Dagobah.

Want me to come find you? he asked. He'd collect Mara and they'd all stick together. Whatever was going on, it was better to be in a group than alone.

I think that is a good idea, she said, shivering as she pressed her back up against the nearest wall. Arha sent him a mental snapshot of the section she was in--there were a few squishy meatlike chairs--and wrapped her arms around her knees.

She would go search for Obi-Wan, next, though she refused to physically leave this place.

You shall bring Mara Jade, and I shall find Obi-Wan, she said quietly. If there is something wrong, it would be best if we were in one place. I do not like this. I do not like this at all, Luke.

Arha reached for Obi-Wan a half-second later, urgency coloring her wordless touch.

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Luke brushed reassuringly against her mind and got up, stretching the chill out of his muscles. We'll be there as fast as we can. Let me know if something happens.

As he left the temple he'd been meditating in, Luke stretched out, searching for Mara's presence among the others on the ship.

'?'

Obi-Wan's returned touch was muffled and puzzled— he was asleep, trapped in some dream of endless placid corridors and a man somewhat older than he who gave lessons in a language neither could understand. But still, he worke at her call and when he perceived the nameless need in it, responded a bit more appropriately.

'!'

There was a sense of waking, of moving away, and finally, words came, 'Arha...I'm coming, where are you? What's wrong?'

There is something here, I do not know what, and I do not like it. It is cold. Very cold. Such a thing I have never sensed before. Rather than attempt to explain her whereabouts, she gave him a crystal clear image of where she was and tried to flatten herself further against the wall.

I did not mean to wake you, but...this is unnatural. I do think it may be moving away, though. Luke felt it too, and shall find Mara Jade. It is as if I have eyes on me. Watching. The prickly feeling did not leave, the one that caused all the fine hairs on her body to rise--or might have had the suit not clung so fiercely to her.

The cold, though, that is a thing which ate at her the most. She was no accustomed to being cold. It carried through into her tone as a worried note with an agitated bite.

Robo was cheerfully oblivious to anything being even slightly off, and was off in the Media Library figuring out how to check out the "books" there.

This was highly unpleasant. Much more unpleasant than she was willing to admit, she crossed her arms and mentally stared back, bringing all the weight of her training forward. If this thing wished a staring match perhaps she would accommodate. And those whispers! What of them? She probed the presence, scowling.

You do not frighten me, she said firmly, refusing to budge. What is it you wish?

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Enlighten me, then, Arha said, her lips pressed into a thin line as she dropped her arms and stood. Tell me what you are and what you wish. I am no judge, be you living or dead or something between. I am called Arha and that is what you may call me, if you wish. I am no it. Do you wish me to cower in fear and run away? I shall not for such is not my way.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The only thing I would have to fear in my own Universe is myself, Arha said gravely. There is nothing like whatever you may be in the place I call home. If I choose to ignore one such as yourself, it is as stupid as talking to you, no? I choose to face whatever comes my way, be it for good or ill. Which may you be, you of the long stare? Mm?

She folded her arms and arched a single eyebrow, more curious than afraid. Fear, after all, was the mindkiller.

Since her previous run-in with the ghost that had stifled some of the pain, Miku had been more careful to carry her camera with her. The film type she'd loaded it with wasn't very strong, but she was sure it would be enough of a deterrent if she was able to take their picture with a full charge.

So when her skin started to chill, and her head filled with that odd, unpleasant buzz of something about to be wrong, Miku pulled her camera out and held it close to her chest, checking the filament for the color indicator that meant a spirit was good or bad.

And maybe it was just her being over tired, to escape the dream mansion... but... what was wrong with the walls?

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Arha did not panic, but let go of her body and it made the transition tolerable. She turned a circle hmming softly after he finished speaking before facing him again. A hunter, such would make sense, she supposed if other universe had things that stalked these shadows the creature spoke about.

I would assume you are hunting something aboard this ship, then, if you are watching in such a manner. How do you determine what is an unnatural thing? There are many different kinds of creatures aboard this vessel, some are markedly different from each other, some may not be natural at all.

She paused for a moment.

I trust my body shall remain alive during this...conversation? It would be markedly distressing if I simply ceased to be after all the effort I have gone through to preserve my own life and the lives of others. I would know a few who might be decidedly disturbed by my demise, not to mention myself.

Miku wished she could strain her ears a little better, so she could make out what they were saying. It didn't help that the longer she stood there, the more her heartbeat flooded her ears, making it harder to hear them. "...Hello?" she called softly and put her eye to the viewfinder.

The sudden face in her camera made her gasp and stagger back, but then it was gone. Her filament hadn't even... hadn't even lit!

Pirogoeth looked over, only to find the figure had vanished. This just made her more wary. Things that disappeared from view were usually quite dangerous. She kept focusing on that spot, seeing if something else might appear.
