Wandering and talking (open)
Bix was another who wasn't quite sure what to do with herself in this...thing. She was totally out of her element, to be honest. She missed the open sky, the warn sun on her back, the grass beneath her feet. She missed a good meal rather than the gray substance that was food here. The strange sensorium devices replicated it quite well, but there was still something missing in the end. She wondered why humans chose to close themselves off so much. It did not surprise her though that they were capable of building things like this, based on information that came in from newly arrived dolphinbacks and the heights the empire of Poseidos had reached with its metal creations.
There were the raptors of course but she had only slowly learned that they were from another world, not from the Island. The entirety of what existed was very difficult to wrap her mind around. Even many of the humans didn't seem to quite understand.
< I think I know what you're feeling. > It was the hawk who talked to the mind. < I don't like the confined spaces either. I miss the forest and the nature I got used to. >
"Yes, that's a larage part of it. And humans don't have such strange machines and devices where I come from. There was an empire at one time that had technology...they made mechanical beasts, metal saurians. But now that we've learned it was a real place and not a legend, it seems to many, including me, that their own arrogance and pride destroyed them."
< Sounds like my world. People can't live without their techno-gadgets. Wierd, though, how when your situation dictates that you don't use them at all, you find you don't really need them much after all. I miss some things about being human, but I've definately picked up a few things along the way. Hey, by the way...how do your people live with giant meat-eaters running around? I remember my run-in, and it wasn't fun. >
"The large carnivores keep to the Rainy Basin. They may not be civilized, but they do have a sort of honor of their own. An agreement of sorts. Although offerings of smoked fish are sometimes handed out to reinforce things. They are also supplied by the death caravans. Old and dying saurians, those whose lives are ended, give their flesh to renew the lives of others."
< I guess it's better than hunting for a living. Wierd, though. >
Tobias couldn't help chatting with the Protoceratops, given his dinosaur affinity. At least she was more personable than the raptors. And had a lot of good insights at times. Secretly he wondered though if an island like the one she talked of would manage to escape detection in the modern day. Maybe they had some form of cloaking device like the Yeerks. Who knew, maybe an Andalite had visited them.
The talk lasted a long while, and Tobias thought he could listen a lot longer if she'd let him.
