The Good Kind of Homework! [Starting with Yukio, but Open (See note)]

So yeah, enough goofing around! After these past attacks? And now knowing that there might be times that he won't be able to use his powers? Rin was in full LET'S KICK SOME ASS mode! He was ready to, wait for it, LEARN?!

Today he even woke up early! ~~The sky is falling isn't it?~~ Leaving a note on Yukio's desk, he set off to the sensoriums to wait for his brother, who he knew wouldn't be far behind. He started off with warm ups, laps, cardio, whatever. He knew Yukio would start, and continue strong training, so he wanted to be at his best!

After all, the future Paladin can't be a weakling right?!

Atom peeked into the Sensoriums, curious as to who might be inside at this time of day. It was Rin, and he was... working out?

"Hey," he said with a little wave. "You're up early!"

"Yo!" he waved back with a big grin at the kid-bot.

"Early bird gets wormed! Or whatever it is they say." he paused his warm up and stood up straight, giving a thumbs up to Atom, "How are ya?" He hadn't seen him in a while after all.

Atom smiled. "Well, maybe it doesn't go exactly like that... anyway, I'm doing okay, I guess. That winter planet was pretty neat, huh? I did some ice skating!"

He didn't feel like talking about SHODAN too much, so obviously Pelau was safe ground.

Not talking about SHODAN was more than fine with Rin. In fact, it was for the best!

"Neat? That place was awesome! Oh man, so much to do there! It was great! I was thinking that I could do a snow day every so often now that I have gotten a bit more used to using these sensorthings."

"It was, huh? Kind of reminded me of back home. Well, not exactly, but you know. We had ice skating and fishing and stuff back on Earth. It was nice to do it all again. Even if it was summer when I left..."

Well, no sense dwelling on that too much. "I went to see a play, too, but it was kinda long."

"Yeah! We used to do that back home too! At least the old geezer loved fishing. Me and Yukio's birthday was always really snowy, so snow makes me smile all the time haha!"

He raises a curious bro and looks up in thought. "A play?" And then Rin thinks about the sentai drama shows on the display tv's on the way to school.

"Old geezer? You mean your dad?" Jeez, Rin, so disrespectful. "Or your grandpa?"

"Yeah. It was... uh, Henry V, I think. Goliath really likes those kinds of things. I still don't get why you'd want to watch a play if you already know everything that happens, though..."

"Yeah, pops." What is this 'respect' you are speaking of?

"Kinda ruins the fun don't it? I mean, where's the surprise! It's like reading spoilers for a manga series you're following! Makes it dull and pointless!"

Somehow, Atom was still confused.

"Yeah, I think so, too... but then again, maybe I'd have had an easier time understanding what was going on that way. The kind of language they used was pretty different from the way people speak now."

"I see, that would be a problem." Rin thought as he tapped his chin.

"Maybe they have like, translators or something. Make it easier to read or hey, maybe even more fun! Oh! Maybe they can make it into a manga or a game or something."

"Yeah, I guess so. Although I bet Goliath wouldn't approve of that much. You really like manga and video games, huh?" Atom was fond of them himself, but Rin seemed to really relish them. "Which ones do you like best? Adventure? Science fiction?"

"Hell yeah I do! I guess it's cause of Yukio, for all the studies and hard work he does, he was really into them, and that's how I got into them too. I prefer the intense action and adventure ones! Oh and ones with robots, or cool mystery types, or hey! The ones with the really hot chicks of course!" Rin grinned big.

That was... pretty much all the shonen manga ever, okay. Atom smiled at him. "I like detective-types! I read some old manga back at Professor Ochanomizu's about a black-market surgeon that was pretty cool, too. And ones about space. Although not the kind of spaceship we're on now. More like... metal and glass."

He was just going to let that hot chicks remark pass without comment.

"Oh neat! I'm sure Yukio would like to talk about those types too, he gets really into the story when he starts to talk. he might not look it, but he really enjoys them too."

Aww what's wrong with hot chick manga?!

"Oh yeah? I guess I know a couple of people like that. Although most of the people I talk to are adults. So they don't really have a lot of time for manga any more. More like police work or robotics..."

Which was a shame, but he guessed that was just how humans worked. But he'd always look like a kid, so he supposed he could always indulge himself in childish hobbies without remark. "It's too bad. People should take more time to enjoy themselves."

"You said it man. People need to relax and have fun at least ONCE in a while!" Rin exclaimed if a bit exasperated, except not really, he was just over dramatic!

"You'd swear they act as it would kill them."

"Yeah... although I guess it's hard for them to relax when they're worried about other things."

Atom looked around the Sensoriums. "So is this part of 'relaxing'?"

Rin laughed and grinned confidently as he pointed towards himself.

"Naw, this is me training! Which is to say, doing what I should have been doing since I'm usually goofing off, ha... haha." Boy did he look awkward now as he said that.

"Um... training for what, exactly?"

Yes, Rin, you looked very awkward. But still adorable.

"To become the greatest Paladin there ever was! And to help in this war we're in of course! I gotta get stronger for that to happen."

The burning desire was clear in his eyes, that or total oblivious security, either way, his passion was shining through!

"A... paladin? You mean like in an RPG?" Atom looked from the Sensoriums to Rin, then back to the Sensoriums. "With armor and everything?"

"Like in a... Oh! Oh not, not like that, but I guess they have some of the qualities. No a Paladin where I come from is the top Exorcist. He's at the top of the Exorcist ranks and is heralded as the most important person in the line." he said with a proud smile.

"An... exorcist?" Oh, great. Now Atom was thinking about something totally wrong. Incantations and consecration ceremonies and whatnot. "You mean a priest or a monk or something?"

"Well, yes and no. You don't necessarily need to be a priest or a monk to be an Exorcist, but the vast majority are those types." It was a common misconception! Even in his world.

Stiiill not quite getting it. "So you get rid of ghosts and stuff? But why do you need to work out to do that?"

"Well, more like the demons invading Assiah. And you need to be in shape both physically and mentally in order to take on the higher rank demons. They're powerful and tricky and can overwhelm even strong Exorcists if they are untrained..." he drifted off, remembering some of the fights he'd witnessed in the past.

Atom tilted his head at Rin, curious. "Well, that doesn't sound like the exorcists I know about at all. We didn't even have demons or anything. Just... humans and robots."

"Well, from what I've seen around the place, lots of these other worlds are as different if not more than what people imagined in video games and manga! So i wouldn't be surprised to hear about many more different things." Rin said with a big grin.

Atom nodded. "It's kinda weird how one word means something completely different in another world, though. But it's best to get used to it, I guess."

He heaved a sigh. "Okay, well, I guess I should get back to fixing stuff in the City. If you have some time after training, come by, okay?"

"It can get confusing, yeah, but it's not too bad!" Rin replied giving him a thumbs up.

"Sure! No prob man! I'll catch ya later then, take care!" he waved excitedly with a pleased smile. He liked hanging out with friends, and this was no different!
